DVD Collection so far (some blu ray)
Hi, I'm new to physical media collecting in a sense. I stopped about 20 years ago. Ha
I live in Southern Illinois
My first movie was TMNT or The Land Before Time on VHS
Some favorites:
Peewee's Big Adventure (all Tim Burton thru Big Fish tbh),
Triplets of Belleville
Barton Fink
Dumb and Dumber
The Royal Tenenbaums
Cabin Boy
Macgruber
Evil Dead trilogy
Yojimbo
So, so many more
Organization is very loosely alphabetical for now.
I hope to get a second large shelf and divide into favorites, "new to me", etc. Make a mini Blockbuster.
Also, movies laying on top horizontally are movies I want to watch soon or show my son.
TLDR below: why/how I came it I own all this after 6 weeks.
Story time!
So, I owned a handful of dvd box sets and movies from high school going back to 2005, or so (Pete and Pete, Rn and Stimpy, Simpsons, Shaun of the Dead). I stream most stuff these days.
Well, in December my mom passed away without warning and grief is weird. I got super nostalgic earlier this year and made a list of movies I love, movies I associate with people I love, or movies from when I was little I don't recall so well (Tiny Toons - how I spent my summer vacation) on Letterboxd and realized I didn't own copies of any of them.
So I started poking around on Facebook and realized DVDs are almost free now and my ADHD went off the rails and got hyperfocused on this pretty cheap dopamine.
I know DVD quality is inferior but I grew up on VHS and DVD so I don't mind at all and my Blu Ray player does some magic on em (bought at goodwill for $8 during this little obsession).
I've bought a handful of movies from Ebay too - stuff like Clerks 10th anniversary , LOTR extended deluxe box set, etc. Unlikely to find thrifting or out in the world. The only movies I've purchased NEW on purpose are
Criterion release of Peewee's Big Adventure (blu ray)
Howard the Duck (blu ray)
Also, during all this movie grabbing from yardsales, goodwill, etc, I ended up collecting movies I always wanted to see but hadn't yet, as well as stuff like The Last Airbender (2010 - Shyamlan) because my son and I will enjoy it for all the wrong reasons as Avatar fans.
Anyway, sharing cuz I really love owning copies of stuff and idk who else would appreciate this. Thanks :)
