Oura 4 basically unusable after 5 months. Support says it's a "known issue" with no workaround.

I'm at the point where I'm going to stop wearing my gold Oura 4.

I ordered it in mid-January, and it worked great until about three weeks ago. Since then, it's become increasingly unreliable.

  • Entire nights of sleep are missing.
  • Sometimes it only records part of my nightly sleep data.
  • It randomly misses daytime data and occasionally acts like I'm not even wearing the ring.
  • There have been times when the ring is on my finger, my phone is in my hand, and the app can't even find the ring.

I opened two support tickets that sat unanswered. I finally went back through the app and got connected with a live support person.

We went through everything:

  • Ring has plenty of battery.
  • Fit isn't the issue. It's actually snug enough that I usually have to wash my hands to get it off.
  • Deleted and reinstalled the app.
  • Synced the ring.
  • Open the app before bed and when I wake up.
  • Every troubleshooting step they suggested.

After all of that, support told me they were closing my ticket because this is a known issue affecting some Oura 4 rings where sleep data is missing or only partially recorded. They also said there is no known workaround and that I'll be notified when there's a fix.

Last night it recorded 5 hours of sleep...I woke up rested after sleeping about 9 hours. I didn't even wake up to urinate in the middle of the night. If the primary purpose of the ring is tracking sleep, and it can't reliably do that, then the ring isn't functioning as advertised. I'm over it at this point and I'm just going back to wearing my Apple Watch. It's clunky, has to constantly recharge but it's more consistent than my Oura in recording my data.
