Went to the Kite Festival in Kanyakumari — it’s on for the Aug 29th and 30th too if anyone wants to check it out

Took the family to the Kite Festival in Kanyakumari today. Didn’t have huge expectations going in, but it turned out to be a really nice, chill day — kites all over the sky, decent crowd but not overwhelming, good vibe overall for a family outing.

Good news if you’re free this weekend — it’s running through the 29th and 30th too, so there’s still time to catch it if you’re around Kanyakumari.

If you’ve got kids or just want an easy half-day activity that doesn’t involve trekking or driving far, this is a solid pick.

Chapter One: The Mountain — some things you can't explain, you just have to climb

Most of us look at mountains from a distance and think they're beautiful. But the real beauty is in the climb itself.

Changing terrain, tall trees, leaves swaying in the wind, that breeze hitting your face while you're sweating, birds calling, your own breathing getting heavier, butterflies everywhere, huge rocks, hidden caves, and paths you didn't expect.

Every bit of effort to get through all that is worth it. At some point the clouds start brushing past the mountain, and mist wraps around everything near the top.

Standing up there feels like you've actually achieved something. The view all around is one thing — but the peace that settles in afterward is something else entirely.

Some things really can't be explained in words. You just have to climb it yourself. And once you do, you'll want to do it again.

Kanyakumari's Magic Weather

There are days when you plan every step of a hike… and then nature completely changes the story.

We started this trek expecting a peaceful hike with great views, but within minutes the weather took an unexpected turn. Heavy rain rolled in, thick clouds surrounded us, and we found ourselves completely immersed in the mist. Visibility dropped, every step became an adventure, and what could have been a setback turned into one of the most unforgettable moments we've ever experienced.

Sometimes the best memories aren't the ones you plan—they're the ones you never see coming.

A Peaceful Morning at Pechiparai Reservoir, Kanyakumari

Visited Pechiparai Reservoir early in the morning, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful experiences I've had in a while. The fresh air, calm water, mist over the hills, and the sounds of birds made it feel like time had slowed down.

I captured a few pics that I hope reflect the beauty of this place. Sometimes, you don't need a big adventure—just a quiet morning surrounded by nature.

Mambazhathuraiyar Dam | Kanyakumari

Started the day with an early drive and reached Mambalathurai Dam at around 6:30 AM. The cool breeze, still water, birdsong, and misty surroundings made it feel like the place was all mine.
There were barely any people around, which made the experience even better. If you’re someone who enjoys quiet nature spots and early morning drives, I’d definitely recommend visiting around sunrise.
Spent some time walking around, soaking in the views, and capturing a few photos before heading back.

📍Ezhanapotrai

A quiet mountain with wide-open views, fresh air, and the kind of silence that’s hard to find elsewhere. Sometimes, all you need is a short hike and a peaceful spot like this to reset your mind.
Nature never fails to remind us how beautiful simplicity can be.

Maiya Kottai

Visited Maiya Kottai today to explore its historic ruins. It’s a place with so much potential and history, but unfortunately, it has been neglected. Broken glass, overgrown bushes, and a lack of maintenance have taken away from what could be a well-preserved heritage site.
It’s disappointing to see such a historically significant place in this condition. I hope the concerned authorities take steps to clean, protect, and restore Maiya Kottai before more of its heritage is lost. Places like this deserve to be preserved for future generations, not forgotten.
