Game 2: Stars player rankings and performance charts

Game 2: Stars player rankings and performance charts

Some things that stood out:

  • Robo starting the season with 2 straight games in the "Off Night" quadrant. Tied for the second lowest player score, with only Blackwell scoring lower
  • Blackwell comes in to replace Kiviranta, and ends up being the lowest rated forward just like Kiviranta was in Game 1
  • Strong Corsi start continues for Steel, as he led the forwards there (tied with Faksa)
  • Seguin in a tie for most SOG amongst forwards for the 2nd straight game, but not great two-way play once again
  • Miro leading in SOG, with 2 more than any forward
  • Bish and Myers with the 2 worst Corsi percentages of the D-men
  • Nils with 4 giveaways, 2 more than anyone else
  • Hintz with 4 hits

Looking for some feedback on a different way to visualize player performances each game

I've been wanting to build something that gives an easier visual for how each player performed in any given game, both compared to all the other Stars players AND compared to their own season average performance. I have a first draft here, which is loaded up with all the games from last season: https://starsviz.github.io/

The axes on the chart show each player's "player score" for the game vs how each player compared to his own season average player score. The player scores are computed differently for forwards and defensemen, but they're on virtually the same scale (so the idea is a 65 for a forward is an equal-caliber performance to a 65 for a defenseman). There's more detail on the page about how the player score works.

Beyond the quadrant chart, you can also see a couple different tables ranking both the forwards and the defensemen from best player score to worst player score, as well as how each individual stat compared to their season average for that stat.

You can also click into any player and get a more detailed card for them, including a shot chart and a timeline of when that player registered different key events during the game.

Lastly, you can access all the prior games via the sidescroll bar at the top.

Just wanted to share here because I'm curious if this is something other fans would find interesting after each game, if the format/layout makes sense, if there are other things you'd want to see, if there are things on here that are overkill and you wouldn't be interested in, etc etc. Really just looking for any kind of feedback whatsoever!

in the past, I feel like I could count on coming to ChatGPT and, generally speaking, get the “best“ answer when I asked a question or wanted to explore an idea.

for some time now, this is no longer the case. At some point, chat became so obsessed with everything it knows about me that it seems to be no longer capable of providing the best answer. it just provides answers that relate to things I’ve mentioned in the past, answers that include interests I’ve told it about, answers that continue/build on previous ideas that I’ve explored, etc.

overly simplified example: going to chat and asking for the best album or book of 2026, and getting an answer that is entirely based on the literary or musical interests that I’ve told it about in the past. sometimes (most times???) I just want answers “in a vacuum” - I don’t want my biases or my interests informing the response. it’s become a serious problem when you’re trying to explore creative ideas or use the tool to think about something in a novel way, and it’s just digging for things that it can say that relate to your past conversations at all costs instead.

its like a new version of the “people pleasing“ that we were all griping about before - maybe now it’s dialed back a bit on all the “wow that’s such a genius idea, great question!” type shit, but it’s replaced that problem with the different problem of not being able to craft responses to queries without obsessing over your interests and your messaging habits (and crafting it’s response in a way that makes sure to hit on them)

just wondering if anyone else is feeling this or if I’ve somehow stumbled into my own unique hellhole of predetermined conversational focuses

as the Stars DJ, please look around at the crowd during these playoff games. look at how little they’re responding to the constant shitty dance music. the arena is lifeless. take a hint from the other arenas across the league where the crowd is an actual factor. blast the people with some metal or rock or something that gets people PUMPED instead of treating them like they‘re taking ecstasy at an uptown club at 1 in the morning. there are real hockey fans at playoff games, stop catering to the 21 yr old college girls
