Relocation challenge
I currently work for a global mining manufacturer, and been with them nearly 3 years. It was originally a hybrid position, but I have a severe autoimmune disease and was granted fully remote work arrangements. I've taken on a challenging focus area within my product line and have been doing very well. Got a raise and been a go-to high performer ever since.
My particular chronic condition has a habit of flaring in cold weather and pressure changes. I found a state that would be ideal for maintaining my health. There are also many benefits of living in this state that affects my whole family in a positive way.
The challnege I face now, I am not certain I will be allowed to move to another state and keep this job. My manager said he absolutely supports me in this and agrees it will have no effect on my day to day work or pur team. He will be going to HR and his manager next week to hopefully advocate for me.
This company is global - my day to day involves working with people all over the world. So by nature all of my CAD, PLM, EDM, workflows, are completely online and require 0% face to face interaction. The company wants people attached to a an office local to their location. Where I want to move there is no such office, so that may be a challenge from HR and payroll side of things.
I guess my question is, has anyone dealt with this? I really like working at this company because of its work-life balance and relaxed culture. A boring job, yes, but highly supportive and somewhat satisfying. But at the same time my health is not improving and at this point I will always need a remote position or at the very least some serious accomidations.
Post covid I know remote positions are less common, especially for an entry to mid level engineer.
Any suggestions in case I have to search for another position?
Thanks for reading, and look forward to any suggestions.
