Bay area botox pricing mega summary
Hi everyone, I spent an entire afternoon researching reddit posts, yelp, google reviews, websites, and calling for quotes, for my first time doing masseter botox in the bay area. I wanted to give back to the community the summary of my findings as most of the suggestions were from you all to begin with. I did focus specifically on places that do masseter botox so keep that in mind. I think prices can change frequently so be sure to call to make sure before you go.
During my research, I did also learn that there is such a thing as watering down botox so that people can sell you more units. I realized that when I called doctors offices they usually quoted masseter would be 15-20ish units per side, but some medspas even though they were cheap, would quote as much as 30 units per side. For that reason I think it's also worth it to check on average how many units they typically use.
I also learned that the prices in LA are omg significantly cheaper ($6-10/unit), so if you go down there often, maybe consider doing your botox there. With groupon I've seen some in the $6/unit. There are some great groupon deals for the bay area too for doctors as well. Since it was my first time ever doing botox and I am targeting TMJ/clenching issues, I wanted to go to a doctor who could analyze my TMJ without me having second thoughts. But perhaps in the future when I'm more comfortable I will try the groupon deals.
Some places use an app called Alle, and they give you discounts. I got $65 off my first treatment of botox so that was a huge plus. I downloaded the app after I finished my treatment at the office because I noticed they had it. If you're interested in a referral you can DM me, and it gets you $50 off your treatment with an Alle provider.
Here was my research in order of what I was considering most to least
| Name | City | Price per unit | Other notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do Re Mi / Tooth Fairy Dentist - Dr. Cheryl Chang | Cupertino/West San Jose | $12 | Has two offices/locations. Dentist. Alle provider |
| Club Inject | Burlingame (and multiple locations) | $7.78 | Promotion, no member joining fee. You could cancel immediately and get it for one time for this price. Otherwise $9.72/month to keep the price. Less worth it the less you use it. |
| Dr. Steven Struck | Atherton | $12 | Alle provider. Quoted 15-20 units per side. Plastic surgeon |
| Dr. Peter Farmer | SF | $12 | Dentist |
| Skinlicious | San Bruno | $12 for 50 units and less, $10 for 51 units and above | Quoted 30-50 units in total for masseter, so not quite enough for the $10 pricing |
| Face Lab Aesthetics | Vallejo | $12 | $600+ which means quoting around 50 units total. Call for nurse pat. Said they would adjust based on your needs though |
| Sev laser | Burlingame (and multiple locations) | $13 | |
| Dr. Bae | SF - Pacific Heights | $15 | Quoted $450 for masseter botox, so only 15 units per side |
| City laser clinic | SF | $700 flat price | They said 1 "area" is equal to 20 units, and they are considering Masseter as 60 units, which means each unit is $11.66. But I wasnt convinced I was going to use 60 units, felt weird. |
| Illuminate | Palo Alto | $16 | |
| Orange Twist | Santa Clara | $16.50 | Ask for nurse Darlene |
| Dr. Adrian House | Menlo Park | $20/unit | Quoted 15 units each side. Called and said he's more of a plastic surgeon so doesn't have expertise for TMJ |
For my first time I ended up going with Dr. Cheryl Chang, and as a bonus I learned about the $65 off promotion from Alle. I ended up using 50 units in total. 20 for each side of my jaws, and 5 units for each side of my temples. I hadn't heard of putting it in the temples but I thought that was really clever because I get headaches. I'm not sure if that's customary for masseter but I'm into it!
