Passing skills test less than 90 days

Disclaimer: I will not be working upon certification!! I want to have at least 80 hours on the job shadowing, and perfect transcripts before I take on work for any kind of income. I have a great mentor who is a machine writer and very supportive of my ambitions as well as helping me to just be great. I don’t want anyone to think I’m saying certification means work right away lol.

Okay here are some pictures to show how quickly it’s been from the start of enrollment- not to mention I didn’t even start classes until first week of my March because I was waiting on equipment to arrive in the mail…

Obviously I have not sat for the RPR so I have nothing to show, but I will update this group and include my results if or when I pass that :)

It’s probably not very noteworthy to most of you for whatever reason, but to me, passing the skills test when I thought I wouldn’t just made me realize that my hard work in learning both methods of reporting has been paying off, and it reminded me that maybe after all of this hard work I will be certified soon. I think it’s not healthy to have the absolute mindsets of something being impossible… some things cannot be done but that doesn’t mean just because you say it can’t be done it is automatically impossible.

None of this even matters if I don’t pass my exams, I just wanted to share in this community that I was excited to be putting my best foot forward. Life has kicked me down in so many ways and I have been able to get through many trying seasons even at my young age. So there’s no need to be rude, and I wasn’t trying to offend anyone with my timeline and how long I’ve spent on the machine. Anyway if any of you want to send me any positive vibes, I’d really appreciate that, I am just a girl after all so I don’t want to be bullied on Reddit for trying to share something positive okay I am sorry!! 😂😩

Testing

I am really really proud of myself, I shared this on Facebook but figured I’d post here too. I first purchased my steno machine in February of this year, and I enrolled in voice writing school February 27th of this year, and started classes the first week of March.

I have been studying both methods simultaneously, and after being enrolled in school for 81 days, I passed my CVR skills test, I am sitting for the written portion this week so I’m excited to potentially be certified.

I am sitting for my RPR this upcoming test cycle, and I plan on being certified in steno within 6 months from not knowing a thing about shorthand, to finishing theory and speed building.

I am 24, a mom of two under two (2 year old and 9 month old), plus we have another baby on the way. I had a full time job as a software engineer but I did take a sabbatical to be able to focus on my studies, and I’m very happy I did that.

Anything is possible and I feel so grateful I’ve been able to join this community and switch careers. I can’t wait for what comes next!
