India's senior citizen health status is the worst in the world. And this is not a physical issue but psychological.

Just talked to my father who retired this year. A peer of his (retired with him), while setting up his post retirement new house, ordered a hospital type double bed (reclining and other facilities) in order to set up for a exigency. Why? Coz he and his wife are already diabetic and over-weight. And the story perfectly captures the sheer stupidity which is happening in our senior citizen health management.

Our senior citizens earn money with the aim of handing it out through medical prescriptions and hospital bills. It is as if they have mentally accepted that they are bound to have diabetes, fatty liver, bad cholesterol and what not post 60. It is a natural phase of life.

And we can spend umpteen amounts of money either personally or through government schemes like Ayushmaan Bharat, this psychological deadlock will continue to increase the healthcare burden. Financially dependent parents will depend on their kids to pull through. We crib about medical inflation but a big reason behind this is the sheer increase in volumes of patients.

Compare our 65 year old to a 65 aged European / Japanese and we realize how pathetic our situation is. This is one of the biggest silent ticking time bombs of our country.

And what is more bewildering is that there is a social status game even in old age health care. Parents compare with each other how their son/daughter took them to so and so glitzy hospital and paid lakhs for their lifestyle burden. Rather than analyzing why have they fallen so behind amongst their global peer age group, the senior citizens have made healthcare costs a show off contest just like marriage, vacations and get-togethers.

I have been following this sub and it is great to watch the Millenials, Gen Zs take care of health. But I am going to say it out loud. Unless, our parents age group dont take care of their health, it will bite us back irrespective of our top notch health. And this isnt just about money. The psychological toll for caring about a father/mother who has been impacted severely from lifestyle related disorders is felt even amongst the millionaires. Families dinners become mundane, happiness is replaced by perpetual sadness, relations become stringent equations.

The psychological issue will have to be changed as of now. A majority of the senior health crises is related to lifestyle related diseases. So when you are hitting the gym today, kindly go on a revolt and take your parent too. You'll are under the wrong assumption that money is the only thing required to take care of them. Coz even after that, you will be mentally jolted. But without money, the mental impact will be manifold.

I hope India's senior healthcare crises gets a psychological awakening.

Bibisara Assaubayeva tags the Kazakh President on Instagram and raises issue of financial constraint hampering her chess career.

English translation provided by Instagram -

Dear Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich!
I am the International Chess Grandmaster Asaubaev Bibisar as of today number 5 in the list of chess players in the world rankings! I went around the world, only China ahead of me!
I am addressing you as the head of state asking for help.
One of the strongest Norway chess tournaments ended today. I won 1st place for the round to the finish.
Funding before this important tournament was for my personal prize money and my parents' money. We have not paid second-hand analysts for this tournament so far..
According to your words, Mr. President, I belong to the gold fund of the country. My medals are forged with great effort, health and patience. Despite all obstacles, I am an athlete, I go and achieve great results, I hold the honor of the country high.
Year after year, I experience difficulties - it is increasingly difficult to interact with the ministers of sports.
The prize from the Ministry of Sports for winning the World Chess Championship is $ 2,000, as opposed to the Olympic medal prize of $ 250,000.
In Kazakhstan besides me, there are no world champions among women and men!
After the second gold medal at the World Cup since 2023 I received a salary of 1 million tenge under the Ministry of Sport. With the arrival of the minister the application was submitted for the second time by order of the minister, the vice-minister of sports Zharaspaev officially wrote in WhatsApp that he, as the head of the board of trustees of the "Sport Qory" fund, signed the conclusion of the pop council approving my application. E. Auganbaeva, the head of the fund, refused after a while without any reason. By order of your name 30 December 2025. I was awarded the Order Barys 2nd degree. At the invitation of the Ministry of Sport, I flew to Astana three times to receive the Order, and each time on his initiative, my visit was postponed. I still haven't received anything from the order.
We have sent three letters to your name through the Application even in April and May and still no response. They were duplicated in the Ministry of WhatsApp. The answer is silence.
Big starts, gatherings and lots of work are ahead...
What should I do, Mr. President?

Gaju, in the article, talks about former WCC criticisms, disappointing classical results, hope for a form uptick. He is happy with Guki's resilience in recent months.

He adds "There are many aspects in his play which have improved" which arent reflecting in his current results now but would do so in matter of time.
