Is it impossible/ harder to lose weight after getting your thyroid gland removed?

I (24F) have had multiple nodules in my thyroid since I was 20. Recently I discovered that some of them have grown larger in size ( largest measuring 23×18mm) and its pushing down on my trachea. I've had swallowing difficulties while eating since forever so i don't even notice them anymore, but I've since been advised by multiple doctors to get a surgery and have the nodules removed before they grow any bigger and cause breathing issues. Although the procedure seems safe enough, I'm worried that the medication I will be prescribed afterwards ( which I'll have to take for the rest of my life) might prevent me from losing weight or at least make it very difficult to do so. I am a mid- to plus size woman who's already struggling with my weight, and this is worrying me more than the prospect of going under the knife. Can anyone who's had this surgery please tell me if this is infact true?
