Do low dose NSAIDs in cats definitely lead to progression of kidney disease?

Hello! We would love to hear thoughts about the use of low dose NSAIDs for cat arthritis.

Our cat is 18yr (16 lbs, MN DSH) and he has arthritis. He already gets Solensia, Adequan, gabapentin, fish oil, and misc. joint supplement treats. He also has ramps and steps and self heating beds. For several weeks now, he’s been limping as the arthritis in his elbows and wrists seems to be quickly worsening. We asked our vet about adding in a low dose NSAID to help keep him more comfortable. She was very much against it and said if cats have any underlying kidney disease it pushes them into early kidney failure and basically ends their life prematurely. So, we should only pursue them if we basically decide he has no quality of life anyway? Is that true? We want to keep him comfortable but certainly don’t want to create more issues.

Thank you so much for reading this and for your input!
