There is no need for AI to guess what the R2T might look like because we already have the Hyundai Santa Cruz. It fits the R2 mid-sized platform and has almost the same wheelbase.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the R2 swag that Rivian added to their Gear Shop.

I like them all but I'm a sucker for the simplicity of the R2 headlight in green.

For me, the most interesting part of the story isn't the reduction of the loan amount, it’s the surprise increase in capacity.

“The company also announced Thursday that it will draw on the loan sooner than planned, in early 2027, and expects to increase the total capacity of the Georgia plant from 200,000 to 300,000 vehicles in its initial phase of operation — another sign that the company has high hopes for its upcoming R2 SUV.

The larger capacity — a 50% increase over its initial plans — will help lower its per unit costs, while also providing significant room for future expansion of capacity in later phases, the company said Thursday. “

Granted, some of that capacity will be for Uber RoboTaxi R2s but not all of it will be for Uber.

I think Rivian is expecting the R2 to be a huge hit and are planning how they can fill the huge demand.

R2 production has ramped up with the addition of a second shift. A third sfit is expected to be added in early 2027.

R2 deliveries will begin later this spring with our Performance trim. This foundation is enhanced by semi-active suspension that delivers superior handling and precision across both on-and off-road terrain and a softer, more comfortable ride. You can also take advantage of R2’s 4,400-lbs of towing capacity with the included tow package that’s ready to haul your trailer or boat.

Launch Package enhances R2 Performance with additional included features like:

1. Autonomy+ included for lifetime of the vehicle*
2. Exclusive option of Launch Green exterior color (paid upgrade)
3. Special Rivian Green anodized Key Fob
4. Tow package with 4,400-lbs of towing capacity

We’re bringing back Launch Green as an exterior paint option for a limited time with Launch Package.

Born during early R1 development days, Launch Green was inspired by the e-coat process — the electrostatic layer every Rivian receives before its final color. It holds significance as Rivian’s debut color and handshake with the world, making its return for R2 even more special.

R2 Performance with Launch Package comes standard with our all-new Esker Silver, but there will be an array of colors to choose from. In addition to the option of Launch Green, customers can select all-new Catalina Cove, all-new Half Moon Grey, Glacier White, and Midnight exterior colors. Forest Green will also be available later.

On the inside, customers can choose between two all-new premium interiors:

Black Crater Signature (available first)
Inspired by the dynamic dark tones of volcanic rock, this interior is crafted with upcycled Birch wood and textile accents. This creates an inviting, dark tonal environment that seamlessly blends rugged durability with a refined, minimalist aesthetic.

Coastal Cloud Signature (available later)
Open and airy, the crisp tones of cool and cloudy coastal sky are warmed with upcycled Birch wood and soft textile accents. This palette offers a modern aesthetic that is grounded in Rivian’s nature-inspired design language.

We’re also offering a limited-edition key fob in Rivian Green anodized aluminum, which evolved from Launch Green, as a celebration of where we’ve been and where we’re going.
