Swapping SSDs between my laptop and PC — good move or am I missing something?
Hey everyone, first post here so bear with me.
I have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe sitting in my old ThinkPad T480 that's honestly wasted there. My PC has a Gigabyte H610M K DDR4 with an empty M.2 NVMe slot just waiting for it.
Meanwhile my PC has a Kingston 480GB SATA that would fit perfectly in the T480's 2.5" bay (just need the caddy kit).
So the plan is:
- 970 EVO Plus → goes into the PC
- Kingston SATA → goes into the T480
Both machines get a purpose-fit drive, nobody loses storage, and my PC finally gets a proper NVMe instead of SATA speeds.
Already verified the motherboard supports NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 and the T480 has the 2.5" bay. Just need the SATA caddy cable.
Am I missing anything or is this a clean swap? 👀
