Employment Contract Legal?

UK based.
A year ago I got a job offer, which I accepted.
A week later my new employer announced they had purchased my old company. All employees were given continual employment rights.

I raised a question with HR about my employment rights and they advised that as I was still an employee (working notice period) when the announcement was made, I had the same employee transfer benefits as those in my previous company.

I have recently looked at my contract and that is not the case. It states I have no previous employment benefits (length of service, sick pay etc)

My old contract was 1 month notice period and my new one is 3 months. I am looking to leave my current role, but not happy about the 3 month notice period.

Do you think my change of contract was actually legal?

Thanks.
