Cold viruses/flu

Anyone else get nervous about catching a cold virus? The last time I had one was back in February and that is what caused my symptoms to get worse. Also, I've never gotten a flu shot, but I also have never gotten the flu as far as I know. But my aunt and cousin (who is a neurologist) believe I really need to get the shot, as well as a Covid booster. I get the concern about how getting the flu can be really bad for those of us with Chiari and syringomyelia; I'm just hesitant.

Ear pain

Does anyone get intense pain in the ear? For me, this is the worst symptom, and I only take Advil to help it dissipate. Any other recommendations for dealing with this particular pain?

When it comes during sleep, I would rather be dead.

Rough Patch

Just a rant. Tail end of Gen-X (1979), about to turn 47 soon. My 40's have pretty shit, especially the past few years. Chronic back/side pain. Removal of melanoma. Rare neurological condition (syringobulbia) which causes me nerve pain. Divorced, leading to a somewhat strained relationship with my kids. Stuck in a situation where I have to pay for half a mortgage on a home that never should have been bought. Even with a decent job in a decent location in Europe, cost of living sucks, living paycheck to paycheck with no real monthly savings. Not much in the way of retirement savings. The only hope I feel is with a loving girlfriend, but she lives in another country. Sometimes I feel ready to call it quits. I know I can always look at the bright side, especially compared to many other situations, but fuck if it ain't grueling.
