Did the Pandavas incur any sin for killing their own family members?

Did the Pandavas incur any sin for killing their own family members?

Did the Pandavas incur any sin for killing their own family members?

They killed their whole assembled family, did they commit a sin or not?

Especially Arjun for the Bhishma's downfall? The grandsire.

If Yudhishthira had bet on Draupadi before losing himself, then she would have had the same reaction

In the canonical story, Draupadi's central question was

If you had already lost yourself, what right did you have to stake me afterward?

But what if he put her on stake before losing himself

Do you agree that Krishna didn't call Karna Adharmi but just wanted to motivate Arjun to kill him

People say that Krishna called Karn Adharmi or unrighteous at the time just before his death but they don't know it was just to give Arjun a signal that it's the time to kill Karna as decided and said by Krishna to Arjun before in the Drona Parva that when I'll signal you should kill him.

They don't understand this and just say that Krishna called Karn Adharmi without understanding the context.

It's Krishna only who called Karna, righteous or Vrisha in Drona Parva.

I absolutely agree with this Youtuber's views and I think many Karn fans would agree too.

Gandhari after touching her feet - Mother, bare foot?

Satyavati- Vyas says that my days in Hastinapur are over. I am going to the forest with Ambika and Ambalika.

Dhristrastra - Is something wrong? Did we commit some mistake?

Vyasa- No. Not so far.

M. A. Mehendale's "Reflections on the Mahabharata War" & what he said about Karna and others.

Mehendale worked with Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) for 25 years.

In Chapter 1, he analysed whether the Mahabharata war was a Dharmyuddha (a war of Dharma) or not. The first slide is the ending of the chapter. By the deaths of Abhimanyu, Karna and Duryodhana.

The second slide is from the second chapter, Yogesvara Krishna: Krishna's different expedient means and strategy employed by Krishna in order to win difficult situations for the Pandavas.

He argues in the fall of Bhishma, Krishna didn't have a role. He mentioned Arjun's and Shikhandi's roles. He said Arjun made Dhristhdhyumna make some arrangements so that Shikhandi, in Arjun's presence nearby, could confront Bhishma, though he said that there was nothing immoral in this suggestion since even prominent heroes had their side guards.

In the fall of Drona, again, he was just told to have a lie, not that a specific elephant should get killed or any other, and also not specifically that Drona should be killed when he left his weapons, just that anyone from their side should tell him a lie: that his son is dead. He would've left and gone away.Arjun wasn't in favour of even this; Yudhisthira agreed after some persuasion. Bhim enthusiastically killed an elephant named the same. Yudithistira told the half-truth, though this game got heavy loss for them since Drona became agitated and not before Bhim's words struck him about this behaviour, and he laid down his weapons and got beheaded by Dhristhdhyumna.

In the fall of Karna, the author told about Krishna's two yogas – sacrificing Karna's shakti on Ghatotkacha and pushing the chariot down from Ashwena, the serpent arrow Karna had preserved for Arjun. The third one is mentioned in the slide.

In the fall of Duryodhana, Krishna reminds Arjun about Bhim's vow and that only a violation can get that victory, Arjun making a gesture to Bhima and him understanding it.

Direct quotes-

"In the light of the information available in the Mahābhārata, examination of the charge-sheet framed by Duryodhana and Aśvatthāman makes it easy to dismiss the accusations against Krşņa with respect to the fall of Bhīşma and the death of Bhūriśravas. Krsna had no yoga to suggest in these cases. Regarding the three events related to combat with Karņa, Krşņa should not be blamed for properly guiding the Pandavas to despatch Ghatotkaca to deal with Karņa, for faithfully performing a charioteer's role while saving Arjuna from the serpent-head arrow, and for tricking Karņa so that his chariot wheel stuck in crevice"

"Only in the cases of Droņa and Duryodhana did Krşņa suggest the yogas which were violative. Krşņa himself admitted on both occasions that there was an element of adharma or anyāya in those means. In the case of Droņa, the element of adharma was limited to the false proclamation of Aśvatthāman's death. He did not suggest decapitating Droņa when he had laid down his arms. Quite clearly, Krşņa's intention was to somehow force Droņa to retire from the battle for that day. But, as seen, his yoga led to a chain of events which resulted in Droņa's death"

"For the fall of Duryodhana, Krşņa did suggest the means which violated the rules of the gadayuddha. But there was no other alternative if the war for a just cause was to be won. Yudhisthira had put the Pandavas in such a situation that only an extreme step could extricate them"

"The Pandavas were fighting for a just cause. The war was a dharmayuddha for them in the sense that they were fighting for the sake of justice. Victory of the dharmayuddha made Krşņa suggest the use of minimum adharma"

Do really Karna admirers hate Krishna?

I've seen many Karna fans on Instagram hating Krishna and blaming him the reason for Karna's death because he ordered Arjun to shoot arrow.

Want to know what y'all think?

Conversation between Indra and Uttanka

So Krishna, after showing Uttanka his Viswaroop, like the one he showed Arjuna, asked him to have a boon.

Uttanka said, Whenever I'm thirsty in the desert, please give me water after I've remembered you.

So, one day in the desert, when he wanted water, he remembered Krishna. Suddenly, he saw a naked hunter (chandala) with mud all over, with many dogs and a bow.

He said, Accept this water, O Uttanka. The water from his.

Uttanka got angry and refused. The hunter vanished then.

Krishna arrived, and Uttanka asked why he offered such water, a hunter's urine.

He said, I asked Indra to give Amrita to you, but he said, I'll only give him in the form of a hunter, but if he refuses, I won't give him that anymore. You refused it.

It wasn't Dushashana but Pratikraman

In Volume 3, in the forest Bhima said to his brothers - The attendant dragged Krishna into the assembly hall like a servant. There is no doubt that we are confronted with this calamity because I did not kill him then.

In Volume 4, Draupadi said to Bhima (When Kichak kicked her, earlier that day) - It burns me that an usher (Pratikaman, the messenger sent by Duryodhana to bring Draupadi) dragged me to an assembly hall, in the midst of the courtiers, calling me a servant maid.

In Volume 7, when Bheem said (after everyone died apart from Duryodhana) to him - Droupadi was in her season and was oppressed in the midst of the assembly hall. Through Shakuni's advice, the king was vanquished in the gambling match. The wicked Pratikamin, who seized Droupadi by the hair, has been slain.

Again, Bheem just before last match with Duryodhana - The wicked Pratikamin, who seized Droupadi by the hair, and all your brave brothers, valiant warriors, have been slain.

According to these statements by Bhima and Draupadi, it seems that it was Pratikamin, not Dushasana.

If Karna already won an extreme majority of the kingdoms during digvijay, shouldn't that have made

it easy for Duryodhana to search for the Pandavas? If nearly all kingdoms were under his rule before the incognito exile of the Pandavas, he shouldn't have any difficulty in finding them since he could've ordered his subdued kings to check the 6 entries into their respective kingdoms or through an elimination method to check which kingdoms aren't my rule, so check there first.

Someone on Insta thrashed me for saying Karna didn't digvijayed Matsya Kingdom (they were thinking Matsya and Vatsa are the same), then I thought if Matsya really was under Duryodhan, then why did he need to launch a cattle raid at a defeated kingdom lol. Even if one hasn't read the book, it's just common sense.

Star Plus didn't glorify Arjun much but also didn't lessen him for Karna, too, unlike others.

BR Chopra did show Arjun's victory even over Karn at Virat but showed that he lost badly on Day 16, with only sunset saving him.

Ramanand with the fake chariot pushing, Krishna's over and unnecessary praise, or Karna even invoking Vaishnavastra at Arjun lol.

The less we can talk of Suryaputra Karn, the better.

I know Star Plus didn't show Arjun's victory over Karna at Virat but left it a stalemate with Bhishma's interference but implied that Arjun would definitely win. Star Plus didn't show even once Arjun's clear victory over Karna but also didn't show that he was any lesser and gave every fight of them an equal footing, even at last.

They also didn't give the chariot-pushing thing and unnecessary Karna's praise by Krishna.

In BR Chopra, Arjun explicitly said to Nakul that he feared Karna on the Kurukshetra days while not fearing Bhishma and Drona.

In Star Plus before Day 11, Krishna asked Arjun if he had any fear since Karna was entering tomorrow and also had the Vasava weapon to kill. Arjun replied to him that you only have told me there's no reason to be afraid, not to fear death, and now you're trying to scare me about death. I'm fighting for Dharma.

Kalki 2898 AD, again had that stupid chariot pushing thing with Arjun's unnecessary arrogance in front of Krishna and Krishna humbling him about Karna or him attacking a weaponless Ashwatthama (and hero Karna to save him).

What's going on here? First it's mentioned, she's there then Duryodhana said to Dushashana bring her

From Sabha Parva, Bibek Debroy, in one, she's there at the assembly already, standing before all, in the very next, Duryodhana asked Dushashana to bring Draupadi into the assembly.

Isn't this contradicting

What's the Krishna-Arjun cult, Hopkins mentioned in his book, The Great Epic of India?

He also said -

"A stanza following the one last cited proclaims that "even Nārada recognises Krishna's supremacy," an utterance which points clearly to a comparatively recent belief in Krishna as All-god, a point long recognized. On the basis of the Arjuna cult implied by Panini, the synthesist urges that the whole epic, in its present Smrti form and with its belief in the all-godhead of the Krishna-Arjuna pair, is as old as the fifth century B. C. But even if an Arjuna cult were traced back to this date, there would still be no evidence in regard to the cult of the twain as All-god. And this is the claim of the present epic, except where, as in the case just cited, incredulity is involuntarily manifested or plainly stated (as in the reviling scene in Sabha).

The Gita itself admits that those who worship Krishna as the All-god, or recognize him, are few in number: vāsudevaḥ ¹ sarvam iti sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ, 7, 19; "Me (as All-god) in human form, not recognizing my godhead, fools despise," 9, 11. The Mahābhāşya does not recognize Krishna as All-god, but as hero and demigod. The cult is growing even in the epic itself. So, too, no Smrti can be implied by Pāņini's words"

Were there 2 Vijaya bows? Or one out of Rukmi and Karna, is lying?

Vaisampayana mentioned that there are 3 divine bows and he also said Rukmi had Indra's bow, Vijaya and later, in Karna Parva, Karna said he has Indra's bow Vijaya

Who really had it?

And it can't be two bows since the narrator describe it as one only and for Indra only, the Vijaya bow.

Either the narrator Vaisampayana is lying or Karna but then what's the need for the narrator to lie there, Rukmi didn't even participate in the war and didn't mention afterwards.

Why did Arjun get distracted even with, like, someone like Ashwatthama?

Arjun's focused skills are continuously on and off during the Kurukshetra war. Krishna again and again told him to focus, whether with warriors like Bhishma and all or with Karna in their final battle, and here Arjun is getting confused even while fighting a warrior like Ashwatthama.

Why is he like that?

u/Everythingisillusion — 1 month ago

Yudithistira was ready to change the rules of his Dharma for Arjun.

So the rules the Pandavas had made were that if any one of them set eyes on Draupadi when she was lying with any one of the others, he would retire to the forest and live the life of a brahmachari for twelve years, and as we know, Arjun broke the rule by entering the room where Draupadi was lying with Yudhisthira and hence wanted to go to the forest.

But Yudithistira, the ultimate Dharmraj, tried to persuade him to not go by finding out the loophole and going against the rule made by them though Arjun didn't agree.

So if he could do it for Arjun, why couldn't he do it for Draupadi at the Sabha Parva?

Karna had Vaishnavastra? What was Ramanand Sagar' Shri Krishna showing in the 90s?

Like, it's so stupid to show Karna having the Bhagadatta's arc. It was Bhagadatta's Vaishnavastra that he left on Arjun on Day 12, and here they are showing Karna having that, leaving it on Arjun, though it's right Krishna came off in between and it turned into a garland, but when did Karna possess the weapon?

Arjun telling the reason why he's undefeated

On the order of Krishna, Arjun, while self-praising himself, said that due to the marks of arrows and the standard on his feet, with which he was born, he's undefeated in the battle. He gave that as the reason for his wins.

Do all the different gods always helping Arjun get him a unreliable reputation for his warrior skill

Indra taking off Karna's armour, making Ghatotkach only to rival Karna by using up his weapon.

Krishna helping him all the time, from creating illusions for Karna not to use the Vasava weapon, putting Ghatotkacha in front of him, taking up Vaishnavastra on himself, and footing the chariot down to prevent the serpent arrow from harming Arjun.

Hanuman being present on his chariot got all 18 days.

Shiva directly helping him to complete his vow on Day 14.

Agni instructing the golden banner with the mark of a monkey with the tail of a lion, one created with divine illusion by Vishvakarma, those beings are on the flag of the chariot of Arjun at the Virat War.

Do all these don't make Arjun's prowness just from the help of gods and not much of his own. How to counter all these arguments while not weakening the case of Arjun's strength and skills?
