Every successful ‘four more years’ chant (1972-2012)

Sadly Clinton’s supporters in his 1996 victory speech
forgot to chant this out

Every New York Times presidential endorsement (1860-2012)

Small typo for 1876 its meant to say they endorsed Hayes not Grant.

The New York Times has endorsed a candidate for president of the United States in every election since Abraham Lincoln in 1860.

In total, it has endorsed 29 Democrats and 12 Republicans.

24 of their 38 candidates (63%) have won their election.

68 years of candidates ‘accepting the nomination’ (1944-2012)

Imo the best ones: Eisenhower ‘52, all of Nixon’s ones, Ford ‘76, Reagan ‘80, Dole ‘96, Bush 2000 and Obama 2008

The worst ones:

  1. McCain 2008: close to no excitement and people are falling asleep
  2. Al Gore 2000: sounds like a robot especially compared to Bush. Again people are falling asleep
  3. All of the Adlai Stevenson ones

60 years of presidential candidates saying “this is the most important election of your lifetime”

Why do the Republicans historically like nominating the runner-ups from the last cycle

Historically, the GOP really likes to nominate the runner-up from the last open primary election cycle to be their presidential nominee, whereas the democrats don't really observe this trend and are in general much more picky with their candidates. Especially in 1996 Dole was picked in part because 'it was his turn'.

Is there something that explains this?

See how election graphics have changed in every election from 1960-2012

Interesting looking at how the quality of the broadcast has improved, most notably in 2004.
