My Teen-Need Advice!
I just found out that my daughter is gay! She doesn’t know that I know. I overheard her talking to her friend. For context, she’s 16, goes to Catholic school. We are Christian but not crazy religious. Her conversation was disturbing to me as she was telling her friend how disgusted she is with herself and that she prays to God for forgiveness and to help her “not be gay!” This leaves me heartbroken for her! I’ve kind of always suspected, and I recently asked her very casually and she denied it! I just want her to be happy! I don’t care who she loves. I will do anything to support her! Lately, she’s been so withdrawn. Barely speaks to anyone and is in her room most of the time. She seems so angry and is quick to lash out at me! If anyone can please tell me if you went through this period of self loathing when you came to terms with your sexuality? I don’t know what to do, or what to say! My heart aches for her! I don’t want to pressure her into telling me if she’s not ready and her feelings of shame and isolation is concerning!! How do I go about helping her? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
