Can you give me some advice?

I have a project in mind. I'm going to write a story about Mineta. I wrote a Mineta Prime story before, but the ending was a bit rushed. This one won't be similar; it will be different. But I'll do it as a tournament. Its name will be:

"The Hated vs. Tales of Destruction"

I'll start on Monday.

Also, unrelated to the topic, I defended Chloe in another Reddit group. That group is a bit problematic for me. You know the Miraculous and especially Marinette fans. I'm not afraid of criticism. If I started criticizing Marinette, I'd write a novel. I defend Chloe in every way. Just like we're creating content about Mineta here, criticizing characters and discussing their traits, and not being ashamed of it, that's great.

I want to make a statement about myself.

Yesterday I posted a list. 10 characters I love and 10 characters I hate. Those who saw Naruto and Izuku on the list of characters I hate asked why. Let me answer. There are many reasons, but let me tell you the most important one: the toxic fanbase. You've known me here for a few months. I'm generally someone who hangs out on Wattpad or fanfiction, looking for stories. I'd say there are too many Naruto and Izuku stories, and more than half of them are clichés. Last year I had a fight with this toxic community. Just because I criticized Naruto and Izuku, everyone tried to lynch me. People insulted me, some called my opinions childish, others called me a 10-year-old kid playing video games with greasy hands. They even went so far as to send me death threats. This is something that happens. What did I do? I deleted my old Wattpad account and opened a new one. What else could I do? You tell me. They made me hate these two characters. I hate them. Okay, I'll defend them when necessary. Even if I hate them, I don't belittle or demean them in my stories. I develop their characters. That's just who I am. I don't hate my characters for the sake of hating them, like other writers do.

We need to talk about this too.

Mineta, in my opinion, is one of the most wasted characters in the My Hero Academia universe. The fandom mostly reduces him to just being “the pervert,” and because of that, he’s heavily hated. We’ve talked about this many times. But today, here on this Reddit platform, I want to defend another character who, just like Mineta, had a lot of potential but ended up being wasted and hated by the fandom: Chloe Bourgeois.

I think everyone knows Chloe. In the early seasons, she was introduced as the typical high school bully—constantly picking on the main character, arrogant, and overall unlikeable. But over time, especially in Season 2 when she received the Bee Miraculous and became Queen Bee, we started to see her move toward becoming a hero. At that point, it was clear that she had the potential for a redemption arc.

And honestly, Season 2 handled this development really well. We could see that Chloe was capable of change—or at least trying to change. But when we get to Season 3, instead of continuing that development, it feels like everything was thrown away. A character with that much potential being handled like this was, in my opinion, a huge mistake. It felt like they completely ruined her character.

Personally, I believe that if a character has the potential to improve, they should be given that chance. I say the same thing about Mineta. Yes, his behavior is problematic, and I’m not defending that. But that doesn’t mean he’s a completely worthless character. He’s not always at extreme levels, and there are moments where he respects his friends, shows courage, and even risks his life when it matters.

Yet for some reason, the fandom is extremely harsh toward Mineta. Meanwhile, characters like Sanji, Jiraiya, and Master Roshi show similar behaviors but are still loved. When it comes to Mineta, people just completely reject him. That double standard really bothers me.

The same kind of situation applies to Chloe. When you think about why she “turned bad” again in Season 3, some of it actually makes sense. After revealing her identity in Season 2, she became a constant target. That’s normal. But here’s the inconsistency: other characters had their identities exposed too, yet they weren’t treated the same way.

Despite everything, Chloe was clearly trying to change. She openly showed that she wanted to help. She had lines like “I’ll help you when you need me,” which proves she was making an effort. On top of that, she was one of the first characters to resist akumatization. That’s a huge detail because it shows she isn’t completely bad at her core.

But even then, she was never truly given a fair chance. When her family got akumatized, Chloe wanted to save them. That’s a very human reaction. At that moment, she could have been given the Bee Miraculous again and allowed to prove herself. Instead, the opportunity was given to someone else (like Kagami), which only made Chloe’s character arc worse.

In my opinion, a lot of Chloe’s behavior comes from how she was raised. Her mother is emotionally neglectful and even harmful. Forgetting your own child’s name repeatedly isn’t a joke—it’s clear neglect. Her father spoils her but doesn’t provide any real guidance. So Chloe didn’t grow up in a healthy family environment at all.

And the worst part is, no one really tries to understand her. No one asks, “Why are you like this?” The only person who stayed by her side was Sabrina, and even she eventually left. As for Adrien, I don’t think Chloe’s feelings for him are purely romantic. It feels more like she sees him as someone she doesn’t want to lose, since he’s one of the very few people she’s close to.

Also, after Chloe was sent to America, her character was basically discarded. If they were going to degrade her this much, it would’ve been better not to show her at all. At least then we wouldn’t have to watch such a forced downfall.

Honestly, in many fandom spaces, you can barely find anyone defending Chloe. Everyone just completely trashes her. Yes, she has flaws. Yes, she couldn’t have changed overnight. I accept that. But that doesn’t mean she deserved zero chance at redemption. They could have written a proper redemption arc.

In the end, Chloe Bourgeois is, in my opinion, a character who was seriously mistreated. Seeing so much potential go to waste like this is genuinely disappointing. At the very least, she deserved a real chance to grow.
