How did high-control religion squash opportunities in your life?

I was just reviewing ex-JW and saw a grown woman celebrate her birthday for the first time. Unbelievable.

Made me think about the LDS culture and wonder what opportunities were replaced by high-control religion.

I find the milestones of Mormonism to be so controlling. Our lives are planned start to finish and reinforced with a patriarchal blessing to ensure that we stick to the script. Forget lazy learner, we are conditioned to turn on cruise control mentally and become lazy lifestyles.
