Giants Crazy Offensive Statistical Anomalies Through The First 64 Games
The Giants recent ball bashing is showing up in the offensive stats. These numbers are for the National League.
The Giants lead the league in hits and lead the league in doubles! With 132 doubles they have a 17-double lead over the second-best team. They are second in the league in triples.
With all the homers belted and runs scored lately they still rank ninth in the NL in both categories.
The Giants team batting average is .260! That's good for second in the league, two points behind LA.
But they are last in the league, and all of baseball, in drawing walks, thus their OBP of.307 is 11th.
Despite the low OBP, they are fifth in OPS at .743 because...all the extra base hits have left them tied for third (w/WAS) in the NL in slugging at .419! They're last in OBP, but fifth in OPS, that's a little crazy.
So, middle of the pack for homers and runs, but more hits and doubles than any other NL team. They walk very little. And opposed to how the season started out, they now have more hits than strikeouts.
And on the bases, they're dead last in the league, and all of baseball, with a paltry 15 steals on the season.
