Decided to start over

After almost 2 food famines because of my farmer missing the potato tax and only building the baker too late, and builders missing a single item that I don't have/don't have easy access to and couriers somehow not doing their jobs while there's a request of something the warehouse does have, I sort of ended up using /kill to kill everyone and just start over (I noticed I do this scorched earth thing on Rimworld as well lmao)

I was using Medieval Oak/Spruce and it does have really pretty buildings but really annoying since I was missing a single flower I can't find and have the unluckiness to not get from bonemeal rng. Really lovely stylepack though even though I only got to lvl 3 for most buildings, even built the university/library properly.

I think I'll remove expanded ecosphere (I'm using the official minecolonies modpack), really cool biome additions but I was unlucky that 90% of the places I explored is some type of savanna and it generally slowed down exploration because my laptop isn't as strong. Considering using Tectonic since it has nicer landscapes (gonna slow down chunk loading too anyway but its nicer).

For the actual reason I posted:

are there any other mod I should get to help with the resource gathering? I'm considering using Nordic Spruce or Littleton/Sandyton and maybe a bit of the Medieval too still.

My miner just hit the unfortunate massive cave that happen to be underneath my colony that I only just discovered

And the miner died as well trying to make a branching mineshaft. I had the bad luck of having this cave be in here, I already torched it up in advance but it seems I missed some which lead to my miner's untimely demise.

It's only at mine lvl 3 atm, would it help if I wall up the main mineshaft so future miners can dig down safer? or would they do that by themselves. I'm planning on making my miner mine at a higher layer for the time being since I can't really afford lvl 4 yet.
