I need some advice/ small vent.
My boyfriend (23) has had epilepsy/grand-mal seizures since he was 15/16. His seizures used to be only once a year but in the last 2 years they've became so frequent that it's either once a month or one every week. We unfortunately can't afford to go see his neurologist (it's $300 just for the appointment, not including taxes and required blood work) so he decided to up his dose of medication. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working as we suspect his seizures are caused by stress/ video games or even a form of photosensitivity . When he was diagnosed, his triggers was 1: lack of sleep and 2: hyperventilation. The stress test and strobe light test didn't yield any results according to his first neurologist. He almost always has his seizures during games such as marvel rivals, apex legends, rainbow six siege, etc. Aside from that it's either when he's driving (makes 2 seizures so far as of April) or when he's working outside. We would like to get him re-evaluated but its almost 8k just for 1 night of tests and he doesn't qualify for most health insurance coverage (either makes too much, ex: state medicaid or they flat out refuse because he's high risk) basically what can we do? We've tried low stimulus games/taking long breaks, sleeping a few hours more, double dosing meds (bad idea ik), reducing stress. Its not working. His neurologist recommended the Mary Jane but it made his seizures significantly worse and it's effecting him more the more seizures he has. It's starting to get to the point where he can't remember things after a few days or forgets things within 5 minutes. I'm terrified that one day he'll have a seizure and won't remember who i am, who he is, he'll pass away during it or even become disabled. I love him to death and I just wanna make it better for him so he doesn't have to suffer and feel like a burden. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What helped you? I know its different for everyone but I'm just so lost. Thank you if you respond.
