My experience wrapping a web app for iOS with capacitor

My experience wrapping a web app for iOS with capacitor

Wow what a ride. 10 months ago I launched a web app. In that time I had over 1200 accounts created. And finally 2 weeks ago I launched on iOS App Store.

As a non coder I relied heavily on ai tools (mostly Claude) for the transition. I did not want to build from scratch as there’s alot of complex
Logic. I used capacitor and the build itself was easily. Building the PWA as a mobile app from the start really helped. There was very little I had to change and the changes I did make were minimal,
Mainly some plugins. The worst part was actually submitting and getting approved.

Another annoying thing I’ve been running up against is that with my web app users, I could deploy bug fixes and they would be live instantly. Now I have to rebuild, resubmit for approval, And then hope users actually update. Much more annoying.

Anyways that’s my expertise. AMA

Best tracking app for food reactivity: MapMyMilk vs Robin Baby vs mySymptoms

Trying to do paper and pen or notes app works in the short term but once you start investigating for longer than a week, a dedicated tracking app really helps. Here are some good options. What do you guys use:

MapMyMilk: available in web app or iOS
- Pros: built by an occupational therapist, specifically for food reactivity, partners with Free to Feed, ingredient label scanner to find triggers, export reports for providers, correlation analysis
- Cons: not available for android yet, doesn’t track diaper output beyond symptoms, newer (less feedback)

MySymptoms: available for iPhone and Android
- Pros: nice symptom trend graphs, correlation analysis, one tap logging, has been around for years
- Cons: not for breastfeeding dyad, people find barcode scanner database outdated, analysis can be hard to understand, no clinicians on team, doesn’t take delayed reactions from breast milk into account

Robinbaby: available for iPhone and Android
- Pros: voice memo logging, all-in-one tracking (sleep, weight, growth, etc), can import from other apps
- cons: not specific to food reactivity, no clinicians on team, heavy handed AI use (risk of hallucinations)

These are all solid options for different situations. MapMyMilk would be great for trying to understand infant food reactivity when breastfeeding, mySymptoms would be great for understanding your own gut health patterns (like IBS), and Robin Baby would be great generic tracker. If you made it this far, I’ll admit I’m the founder of MapMyMilk and I think my app is the best one for you all for this subreddit. I’m an occupational therapist, a mom of 2 under four years old and they both had CMPA and IgE allergies. I’ve really struggled and I built this from personal experience of what I needed in a tracking tool. We partner with free to feed for expert guidance and data interpretation. Send me a DM if you have questions.

Would love to hear what other tools you all are using!
