A bit complicated and pretty shitty, but that's Ubisoft x Steam for you.

Now for the plot twist: you may end up only being able to enjoy the offline versions. If you encounter the Ubisoft online issue, you basically have two options:

1. Buy the game again directly from Ubisoft to regain access to the online features ; which is absurd, especially if you're expected to pay around €20 for an old game just for nostalgia.

2. Contact Ubisoft Support and go through a lengthy process to have the issue resolved .

My advice : if you plan to play Ubisoft games online, avoid buying them on Steam whenever possible. Otherwise, you may end up spending a lot of time dealing with Ubisoft Support just to restore online access.

Watch Dogs 2 and Legion may have added more hacking abilities and improved parkour, but they lost what made the first game special. That's what made Watch Dogs 1 stand out.
