Books7Courses on the "moden" Semi-Tarrash (5. cxd5 cxd4)

i have found plenty of courses on what i would call the "traditional" Semi-Tarrash with Nd5. I hae yet to find one on the modern line which is much more popular now. I understand that this is probably the case because most people deem it to be too dry but i find the endgame very interesting. It would also be good if the material was relativley recent since the line as had a lot of developments in the past years.

Thanks in advance

Questions on the Marshall

Hi,

I have a question regarding my repertoire. I would describe myself as a solid, positionally minded player. I play e4 e5 as black and the breyer is my weapon against the ruy. Its great against lower rated opponents since it keeps a lot of pieces on the board and i also have no problem outplaying people on my level. However, ive felt more and more in recent times that the passivity can make it very hard to play against higher rated opponents. You could say, i feel more and more of the "spanish torture". Ive therfore decided to pick up a more "drawing" secondary weapon against the ruy. The Obvious candidates are therfore the berlin and the marshall. Under normal sircumstances, the berlin should fit my playstile much more. However, i feel like the mainline with Re1 is almost counter-productive, since in these simmetrical pawn structures mean piece activity is very important and those higher rated players always overrun me. So my interest went to the Marshall. I like the fact that the marshall gives white more chances to deviate into a less critical system. That means that i can get into a variation that equalizes much more often before i have to show my cards. I should also mention that i have no problem with exessive ammounts of theory. I have a very good memory and have never had problems memorizing many long lines. I also have no problem with defending endgames a pawn down since i love endgames. On the other hand, the marshall does not really fit my style. My dynamic feel is not nearly as good as my positional one. My question is: If i learn the theory, how often can i liquidate into a defendable endgame? How often, on average do i actually have to play out those dynamic positions? (It obviously douesnt count if white makes a bad move that is not theory. I am obvioulsly happy with an attack if it means that im in a winning position). How often do you face a move by white that is actually decent and that you are not prepared for?

Thanks in advance.

How to study the endgames of your openings?

Im trying to understand the openings i play better. Middle game plans are often clear but you often hear that you should also study the endgames that result from your openings. While i understand this when it comes to openings with pawn majorities on the sides (queenside vs kingside pawn majority) for most openings i see no coherent themes. Ive looked at several master games in my respective openings and i see no coherent features and i could not guess the opening if you ust showed me the endgame. Im going to live a list of my openings in case anybody has any resources on the respective endgames of them:

As white:

-d4

-against QGD: Catalan

-against QGA: normal line with Nf3 and e3

-against KID: Petrosian or Financhetto

-against Grünfeld Neo-Grünfeld, Exchange or russian system.

-against Slav-Complex: Quiet slav

-Mainline stuff against benoni, benko, dutch etc.

As Black:

against e4: e5, Zaizev or breyer against the ruy and mainline stuff against everything else

against d4: Nimzo/QGD with Be7

thanks in advance.

Catalan repertoire without the fianchetto variation of the kings indian.

Hello everybody,

im a catalan player. I really like the opening because of its positional nature and because it avoids both the nimzo and the semi-tarrash. Like most catalan players, i play the fianchetto variation against the kings indian and i quite like it. However, what i dont like is the fact that it forces white to go into a fianchetto setup against the grunfeld aswell. Specifically the c6 grunfeld feels incredibly solid for black due to the simmetrical position. I understand that it makes sense to play the fiancetto because it fits well with the catalan, but, as i said above, i dont play the catalan because i want to go into a fianchetto setup for white at all costs but simply because it avoids many lines. Anyways, are there any catalan players out ther who play something different against the KID/grünfeld? And are there any courses/books with this kind of catalan reprtoire?

Thanks in advance.

The Neo-Arkhangelesk for a positional player?

Hello,

ive recently switched vrom the caro to e5, because i simply dislike playing with the big space disadvantage. Now, i obviously need a line against the ruy. I ould describe myself as a very solid, positional player. Because of this, ive already looked at the berlin. WHile i like the endgame for black, i would like to have anoher system that keeps more pieces on the board. I did not want to go into the closed since there i would encounter the same lack of space as in the caro. The neo arkhangelesk looks pretty promising as it is not as cramped and keeps a lot of pieces on the board. Ive alrady looked a some master games and saw that many of the games revolved arround manouvering on the queenside and engame play, two things that fit my playstile really well. However, ive been told ha the arkanggelesk is supposed to be really sharp in some lines. I personally do not see this t all. The only sharp lines ive found were lines where black allows a pin on g5 in order to attack with a quick h6 and g5. However, you can simply prevent those lines with a preemtive h6. Am i missing something? Would ou recommend the arkangelesk for a player of my stile or are there any systems that fit my needs better?

Thanks in advance.

I need a positional line against the ruy outside of the berlin or the closed variations.

Pretty much the title. I am a very positional player and looking for a line against the ruy. Here are my reasons for not chosing other lines:

1.The berlin: while ive studied it a bit and i also feel like i could outplay some oponents in the endgame, i still need a line for open tournaments where you must win with black in some cases. You simply face the ruy too often to always go for a draw, especially since white can esencially force one with the Qe5-Qd5 repetition.

2.The closed variations: I simply dislike the lack of space. Space is a very important ibalance for me. The main reason i switched from the caro to e5 was because i did not like to have a major space disadvantage.

  1. The Marshall: Simply not my stile. I do not feel comfortable consistantly performing in these positions.

Are there any options that you could recomend?

Thanks in advance.
