Thirteen years ago, The Santa Monica shootings were a wave of murders that occurred at Santa Monica College and surroundings, on the city of Santa Monica, Califonia, that resulted in 6 deaths including the attacker.
On that day in 2013, John Zawahri shot and killed his father and brother and set fire to the family home. He then took a hostage who took him to Santa Monica College, where he was a former student. Upon arriving at the scene, he fired dozens of shots that killed three more people. John was killed by police officers who responded
The shooter was dressed all in black including a black shirt with "police" written in white and a tactical vest, a backpack belonging to him was found with several rounds of ammunition and two more firearms, a three-page letters was also found where he detailed his remorse for killing his family members and says goodbye to his mother and friends, however, the letters did not detail the reason for him to commit the explosion of violence.
This case has caught my attention since 2022, and I've watched and read a lot about the perpetrator, thoughts for the families of the victims and the shooter (two of the victims are related to him).
