Failed Step 1 (borderline) - second attempt plan using Medicospira instead of UWorld, input needed for prep plan - from India - non US-IMG perspective needed
Hi all. Failed Step 1 on my first attempt in March 2026 - borderline fail per the score report (FAIL bar sits just below the minimum passing line on the distribution, not deep red). IMG, took it after \~1 year of prep. Planning to retake in early August 2026
**Score report breakdown:**
Physician Task vs. Low-Pass:
• MK (Applying Foundational Science Concepts, 60–70%): Same
• PC (Diagnosis, 20–25%): Same
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills (6–9%): Lower
**System vs Low-Pass:**
• Lower: Multisystem Processes & Disorders, MSK/Skin
• Same: Repro/Endo, Resp/Renal, Behavioral/Nervous, Blood/Immune
• Higher: Cardiovascular, GI
**Discipline vs Low-Pass:**
• Lower: Physiology, Behavioral Sciences, Biochemistry & Nutrition, Genetics
• Same: Pathology, Anatomy/Embryo, Micro, Pharm, Histo, Immuno
• Higher: (none)
**Last attempt context:**
• UWorld \\\~70% complete at 69% correct — the unfinished 30% was Behavioral Sciences, Biochem, Genetics, ethics (basically the things now flagged Lower, yes I know)
• Only took 2 NBMEs before sitting; NBME 30 = 67%, Free 120 = 69% (taken 2 days before exam)
• Tendency to rabbit-hole on questions and study for “understanding” rather than for the exam
• Burnt out by exam day, brain fog through the last few blocks
**Resources available for this attempt:**
• Medicospira (not UWorld — UWorld subscription lapsed and renewing in India is financially tough; also found the stems unnecessarily long last time)
• 20 NBME PDFs (older forms as daily practice via a custom timed-block tool with AI explanations; newest 7 + Free 120 locked for weekly assessment)
• Pathoma, Sketchy (Micro + Pharm), Mehlman PDFs, Anki (only for self-built mistakes deck)
• First Aid
