Next steps? Reflux and gas
My daughter is 11 weeks old and has CMPA and reflux. She's currently on Alimentum RTF and Gelmix. Out of everything we've tried, Alimentum RTF has definitely been the formula she's done the best on, but her gas issues never really improved. She still seems to have significant gas pain and discomfort.
Lately things have gotten worse because she's started pulling away from her bottles after only an ounce or two and refusing to finish. She'll act hungry and start eating eagerly, but after a small amount she gets upset, pulls away, sometimes gags, and doesn't want to continue. She does seem to feed better when she's sleepy. We've also trialed Alimentum powder and generic hypoallergenic (basically Nutramigen), and neither worked out. She surprisingly refused Pepticate too, even though I had heard it tends to taste better than most hypoallergenic formulas.
At this point I'm feeling stuck on what the next step should be. For those who have been through something similar, would you push for reflux medication first or trial an amino acid formula like PurAmino, Neocate, or EleCare? Unfortunately insurance won't cover amino acid formulas, so it would be a significant expense.
One other thing I'm wondering about is that she still has persistent baby acne at 11 weeks old. Did anyone else's CMPA baby continue to have acne or skin issues that improved after switching formulas?
I'd love to hear what ended up helping your babies and whether reflux medication or an amino acid formula made the bigger difference.
