CHANGE MY MIND: People who prefer “Trauma over medical” are just insecure because they don’t know the knowledge or pharmacology

I love me a a good full trauma too, but I feel like when people say this it’s just a cop out because they’re dumb, just saaaayyyyinnn

Miserable EMT’s and Medics

NEW EMT’s PLEASE READ THIS

If your reading this you may be new, in the middle, or at the end of a career.

but this really is aimed at the people who just started, looking to start, or who haven’t decided yet.
You will meet people who are miserable, “salty”, “burnt out”.

Now burn out is absolutely real, but nowadays it’s cool to be “burnt out”. Take that with a grain of salt. You will run into people who hate this job, who tell you don’t get your medic, don’t stay in this field. FUCK THAT, I work city EMS for 2 years, now just getting into medic school I LOVE THIS JOB. I have seen my fair share of “stuff” okay (shooting, stabbing, DOA’s, MVA’s, OD’s, ETC.)

That doesn’t mean I hate this job, yes do people call 911 for dumb reasons YES. That is because YOUR version of an emergency and THEIR version of an emergency are 2 different things. Someone called because they think something is wrong, or yes the homeless guy wants a ride to the other hospital across town. SO WHAT, if you were homeless you’d do the same thing. It also comes with the territory of the job it’s something we all laugh at or “roll our eyes” at.

All I’m saying is BE YOUR OWN PERSON in this career don’t follow these “vets” who shit on the job while continuing to do it. Doesn’t mean you also have to be some insane motivated annoying EMT/medic either.

Be YOUR OWN PERSON!! Do the WORK!! MAKE the impact!!

This is a great time to get into this job/career, people understand what we do and it will develop more as times moves on (along with pay 🤪)

YOU CAN NEVER KNOW TO MUCH!! If you read up more about medicine while being in a medical field, does more knowledge hurt the patient as a provider? No it can only help you understand what is happening even as an EMT “who can’t do much”. You know “I NEED AN ADULT” 😂. Instead of trying to ride in some shit house of a pt BLS (I understand not everyone has a ALS unit/ fly car), or if you do know what needs to be managed first (Triage of illness aka ABC’S)

this is a rant because I want the next generation of BLS providers coming in to know it’s OKAY TO GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THEIR JOB. Some of you will leave, go to PA school, medical school, or stay. But for the ones thinking about staying, you’re not less than anyone for that. This job is fucking sick guys you just have to recognize that.

last thing: STOP SAYING “ oh im only an EMT” to your patients and partners. Being an EMT means something, and your patients sure as fuck don’t want you down playing that you know what your doing!! Love this job because you want to love it don’t hate it because someone else tells you too, you should!!!

EMS IS FUCKING AWESOME GUYS!!!

(If anyone has questions ABOUT TESTING, GUIDANCE, WHAAAATEVER MESSAGE ME) sorry for cussing but I’m very passionate about this topic and this career. DM for anything NREMT, school, or on the job stuff, clinical things!!
