What are downsides to applying as a freshman to the emerging leader series? Think I am decently competitive for the program and want to shoot my shot. Do I lose anything by larping grad year because it's super common for internships anyway I'm guessing.

whats up yall. this is my first year applying to SWE internships, and i want to know, when do big tech internships drop around for summer 27? i know google and cap one already dropped but what about the rest? meta amazon netflix etc. i don't want to miss the dates, as i know many many people apply as soon as it drops.
i am incoming freshman and messed up and am not deep on the waitlist (22ish/30) for sociol 3AC and I really hope to take it. what are the chances i can get off the wl? is this a course people frequently drop?
should i try my chances with a waitlist of 10/30 on AGRS 10A? seems like i have a higher chance of getting off and both courses seem good to me.
this is honestly a shot in the dark, but i was wondering if anyone has recently seen or has the link of the post i'm describing.
it was a girl who successfully transferred to columbia with the post starting with her stats and then gave a lot of in detail advice. she talked about how sophomore transfer is better than junior transfer because you ahve more time to complete core requirements. she also said (at the end of the post) how she theorizes that columbia prefers applicants who took courses their freshman year that somewhat resembles what they would've taken with the core as a freshman at columbia.
how does waitlist work at berkeley? how many people are expected to get on/off? i am 150th on the waitlist for cs 70 is that cooked. there are over 207 open slots still and capacity 550. how cooked is that?
i am also 30th on waitlist for abstract linear algebra but there are 223 free and capacity of 480. i assume i'm most likely going to be able to get this, but am not sure.

I am a rising sophomore at a target school (I said I graduate may 2028) Did alright on some math competitions(Putnam), did CS research in freshman year, and consider myself competitive for quant. However, it seems to me that I got resume screened at flow traders some time ago but made it past that at other firms. What could be the reason? What are they looking for? Flow traders is a pretty mediocre firm so what are they looking for?

hi! so a bit of background on me: i'm from socal, currently committed to berkeley (had to choose between berkeley and gtech), and although i like the environment a lot. i don't see a culture fit. for one, why are there like no other girls in the math/cs majors!! literally every girl i approached was socially awkward and was not looking for conversation back???
my profile: 6x AIME (never oly sob), usapho medal, a kind of prestigious math camp, and some research at ucla where i published two papers into semi-prestigious journals. got an internship at a startup for this summer too!! (not like a crazy prestigious one lol. just one i got off of a couple cold emails)
really don't want to get called a "prestige whore" here, but i'm looking to try and transfer into schools like Stanford, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, etc (just a top private school, tuition isn't a problem fortunately). ive read the wiki, so i'm not looking for general tips like keep a high gpa! or get good lors! what are specific activities i could do at my time at berkeley that would maximize my chances to transfer out? what are the top private schools looking for in applicants?? etc etc any info helps! tysm!!
hi! i'm incoming freshman at berkeley for applied math. i was looking through the fall 2026 class offerings and realized that all the intro classes are super big, and although i realize i need to take them eventually, my first semester, i really want at least one "small" class where i can get to know the professor and eventually build a good relationship with math faculty. looking through the courses, i basically boiled it down to Honors Introduction to Analysis with Charles Pugh (class size, what people say about the professor, etc). is this in the scope? any advice?
i spent much of high school doing research in math-adjacent stuff and have read a couple higher math textbooks, so i think i'm comfortable with the content. i'm really just trying to "rep-build"
I am majoring math at UC Berkeley; applied for CS double major and want to go into quant (specifically QT). Do you guys think it is worth it to transfer to any of the following schools for a math major and potentially take CS courses? If so, which one?
I'm an incoming freshman at a target school (like a solid step under the S tiers). What is the QT internship process like at firms like Jane Street, SIG, etc? Is it the same as applying for a straight QT role? Ideally, I want to land an internship summer after freshman year, but I'm starting to realize that's really hard.
background on me: Through high school, I did math olympiads and qualified for AIME a bunch and made JMO once my freshman year. i'm a bit rusty at comp math rn, but I could change that with a little bit of practice. i'm also not sure how much comp math actually helps for these roles though..
so i've seen on this subreddit a bunch of people practically saying "full-pay uchicago ted is locked w good stats". i doubt the validity of this statement but.....to what extent is that statement actually true? what type of kids get into UChicago TED full-pay math/cs/physics?
on reddit and friends at UC Berkeley constantly tell me it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into these consulting clubs (literally one applied to 10 clubs and got into 2), so naturally I want to know what gets people in (prestige whoring a bit)? What even are these clubs for? Are there perks to joining other than a social life?
I saw a thread about genetics and skin color but I can't lie, half of the consulting clubs seem to be brown asf and very average looking across the board. so this seems like bs to me 💀
