M1 Pro (16GB/512GB) vs M3 Air (24GB/512GB) for €800? Is the MacBook M1 Pro still worth it in 2026?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently torn between two MacBook options with a price difference of just €9, and I really need some advice on which route to take in 2026.
Here are the two deals I found:
1 MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro (16GB RAM / 512GB SSD) – €809
2 MacBook Air 13" M3 (24GB RAM / 512GB SSD) – €800
My Context & Current Dilemma:
R
ight now, I primarily use a 13-inch M3 iPad Air. However, I’ve hit a massive roadblock: I am about to start writing my Master’s thesis and desperately need to run SPSS (the statistical analysis software). Since iPadOS doesn't support it, I have to switch to a proper laptop immediately.
Future Needs & Career Path:
Beyond finishing my thesis, I’m looking for a machine that will seamlessly transition into my future career. Once I graduate, I plan to work in corporate communication, specifically focusing on crisis and reputation management.
I am anticipating a heavy workload with serious multitasking—running numerous programs, tabs, communication tools, and data software simultaneously. The computer needs to handle continuous high-demand switching without lagging.
My Doubts:
Is buying an M1 Pro still a smart move? Since it's an older chip generation, will it hold up well for the next few years, or will Apple drop support for it sooner than I'd like?
On the other hand, the M3 Air gives me 24GB of RAM and a newer architecture for a slightly lower price, but it lacks active cooling (fans) and the Pro's superior display/ports.
Given that SPSS and heavy multitasking are my priorities, does the extra 8GB of RAM on the M3 Air beat out the sustained performance and active cooling of the M1 Pro?
Which option makes the most sense for my specific situation? Thanks in advance for the help!
