Westernu California chances?
Hey guys, hope yall are doing well. I’m applying to westernu next cycle but this honestly is a really cool school so want to get some input. My dad attended so I got some legacy, and my DO letter of rec will be from someone who went to westernu also. I really want to go DO because I think the OMM you learn is super cool. I’m a California resident with these stats am I cooked or think I might be good:
cGPA: 3.7 (upward trend 3.9 last 1/2 units)
sGPA: 3.6
MCAT: 509
-700 HRS research (2 full years)
-600 hours EMT (1 full year)
-500 hours hospital volunteering (in the ER so not sure wether or not I’m going to put clinical or not) (3 years)
-100 hours non paid clinical (trips to Mexico to help out low income through school club) (2 years)
-1 year leadership events coordinators for medical association on campus (not sure what to put for hours yet lol)
-500+ hours church events and helping out low income people.
-Shadowed many different physicians (100+ hours)
-Decent LOCs will come in, one ochem professor got an A both quarters I took him he’s tenured and older so pretty good, going to ask my PI for my research lab for one I’m close with him, I can ask my volunteer coordinator she loves me, biochemistry teacher got an A in that.
-Only reason GPA lower is I was in the hospital for a quarter my freshman year got a C in intro bio class, but been getting all As and A- after the few slip ups in that bad calc, I hate calc. Got As in all my ochem classes, physics classes, most chem, stats, so overall I think I’m OK but definitely want to apply to some DO Arizona and Nevada schools too so if yall can give insight into where I would be acceptance wise for those schools. Thank you guys!
