I made a post earlier asking about the strike, but I recently found new info from my professor.
DISCLAIMER!!! I was not at the meeting, nor am I a TA, I'm simply passing on the info I got from my professor
This is part of an email I got from my professor. I will not share who they are because I do not want them to face any type of consequences.
"The negotiations today led to no substantial movement toward an agreement. The strike continues, and UIC Admin's lead negotiator, Keino Robinson, has chosen to go out of town tomorrow and Friday after, apparently, taking two other longer vacations in the midst of negotiations this year. The upper admin refuses to put anyone in as a substitute, so they say there will be no further negotiations this week...We are doing our utmost to encourage the administration to resolve the strike, but we have limited power over them. Truthfully, you and your families---as tuition payers---have significantly more sway with them than we do."
Not only do they disrespect us by not even paying the TAs a proper salary, but the UIC lead negotiator is taking another prolonged break??? And UIC refuses to do anything about it. At this point, it is very clear that UIC does not care about its staff or its students, as they can end this strike right now and save everyone the hassle of finals being delayed. They will do everything in their power to ensure they delay this as long as possible, and they think they can get away with it because they don't think that people will take action and support the TAs.
