Nagelsmann confirms Manuel Neuer will be Germany's starting goalkeeper at the World Cup

Nagelsmann confirms Manuel Neuer will be Germany's starting goalkeeper at the World Cup Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Manuel Neuer will start ahead of Oliver Baumann at the upcoming World Cup.

After announcing his international retirement following the Euros two years ago, Manuel Neuer is back in the national team.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann included the 40-year-old FC Bayern Munich veteran in his squad for the 2026 World Cup, which was unveiled on Thursday afternoon.

Julian Nagelsmann also confirmed that the plan is for Manuel Neuer to be Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper at the tournament, meaning Oliver Baumann of TSG Hoffenheim will serve as the backup despite starting throughout the World Cup qualification campaign.

“I plan to use him (Neuer) as the number one," Nagelsmann said when asked about his decision to bring Neuer back into his squad.

"My job was to pick the three best goalkeepers in the country. That’s why we contacted Manuel Neuer and asked whether he wanted to play another World Cup. One of the conditions was also that he keeps playing after the World Cup, and he has extended his contract with Bayern.

“Everyone knows his qualities and what he brings to the team. He has once again committed to playing a tournament. We also have a world-class alternative in Oliver Baumann. That's the decision, and I think it's the right one.”

Baumann left disappointed On how the decision was communicated to Oliver Baumann and how the 35-year-old reacted, Nagelsmann revealed:

“We already told ‘Oli’ in March that I had met with Manu and informed him about various topics. In the end, the decision was obviously a blow for Oli – and that’s understandable.

“At the same time, I really have to take my hat off to Oli because he has had a very good season, even though this topic has been building over the past few weeks. In our phone call, he was also extremely committed to the team.

“In the end, we have a similar situation to Bayern. Manu will help the team, even if he doesn’t play. Those situations can also happen, and you have to plan for them.”

Urbig to travel as training goalkeeper Alongside the three nominated goalkeepers – Alexander Nübel, Oliver Baumann and Manuel Neuer – Bayern Munich's Jonas Urbig will also travel to the World Cup, though he will not be part of the official squad.

“We want to have a fourth goalkeeper in training who throws himself into everything and gives maximum effort. He has done very well at Bayern both in matches and in training,” Nagelsmann explained.

“The second point is that we will obviously have to travel long distances. Because of the distance from Germany, it would be very difficult to react to certain situations and call someone up later. Many players also like to stay behind after training to take extra shots on goal, so it’s useful to spread the workload among more goalkeepers.

“Jonas fully deserves to be there. He may not be part of the official squad, but he will fulfil the role very well.”

(Star Wars) the reason why we see bad quality holograms

Whenever they talk about star wars holograms they talk about how bad the quality is I have a theory for why it is bad:

we only see 2 people who use holograms for majority of star wars

rebels

republic

and in both situations it is

a. Fighting

b. In a rebel base

if I was empire and to quash rebels first thing I would do is add trackers and improve surveillance on holograms that they did do taking control over holonet and establishment of SIGNIT and electronic warfare division basically to stop communications

so rebels would have to use off the grid holograms

If we look in to history as to how rebels counter this example Radio Venceremos used by rebels in civil war el salvador

we are comparing burner phone to Samsung galaxy S23 if you want to see peak hologram the fact Palpatine managed to communicate to all 1000's commanders and be able to surprise jedi's who all felt the disturbance in force so get a huge 20 seconds headstart to interpret

Anfield mosaics planned to bid farewell to Andy Robertson and Mo Salah

Mosaics will be displayed at Anfield on Sunday in celebration of the departing Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

Both legends and cornerstones of the Reds’ many successes over the past nine years, Robertson and Salah will leave the club at the end of this season.

Sunday’s Premier League home match against Brentford marks their final game as Liverpool players and a special send-off is planned for the duo, with fan mosaics to be displayed.

The Kop will lead the tribute to Salah while the lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand will honour Robertson, with the mosaics to be shown before kick-off.

Volunteers are invited to help prepare the mosaics on Saturday morning. Those interested can contact Andy Knott via email: akraotl@aol.com.

LPL removes Icon player social media follower rule after backlash

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has removed the controversial social media follower requirement for Icon and Star category players in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Season 6 Player Registration and Draft Guide following backlash on social media and criticism from sections of the cricket community.

An updated Version 1.5 of the LPL Season 6 Player Registration and Draft Guide, issued on May 9, no longer includes the earlier requirement that players in the Icon and Star categories possess social media followings exceeding 250,000 followers.

The previous Version 1.4 document released on May 8 had stated that Icon and Star category players must have “a large fan base and commercial appeal,” with a social media following exceeding 250K, while Gold category players were required to have over 150K followers.

The revised document has removed all references to minimum social media follower counts across player categories, while retaining the cricketing eligibility requirements such as T20 international appearances, franchise experience, and recent match activity.

Many had questioned the move, pointing to the irony of Sri Lanka Cricket previously urging national players to stay away from excessive social media use and focus on cricket, while the LPL regulations appeared to reward players based on online popularity and follower counts.

The move sparked debate online, with critics arguing that cricketing ability rather than social media influence should determine player categories in Sri Lanka’s premier T20 tournament.

Despite the removal of the follower requirement, the updated regulations continue to place strong emphasis on player promotional obligations, including mandatory social media posts, fan engagement activities, and promotional appearances during the tournament
