Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice from people familiar with the Navy Nurse Corps or foreign nursing degrees.
I’m a 24-year-old US citizen. I earned my BSN in the Philippines and I’m currently working as an RN in the US. From what I’ve been told, my foreign BSN may not fully qualify me yet for direct Navy Nurse Corps eligibility, so I’m trying to figure out the smartest path forward.
Right now I’m considering:
Getting an MSN in the US. (i am starting MSN in leadership next month)
Trying to strengthen my credentials/work experience first
Looking into whether my BSN can still be accepted with additional evaluation
Exploring other commissioning paths if direct Nurse Corps eligibility doesn’t work immediately
My goals are:
Become eligible to apply as a Navy nurse officer
Build a strong long-term military career
Possibly pursue advanced education later on
For those who’ve been in a similar situation or know the process:
What would you recommend as the best approach?
Does getting a US MSN usually solve the foreign BSN issue?
Would bedside experience help significantly?
Are there certain programs or degrees the Navy prefers?
Anything you wish you knew before starting?
I’d appreciate any guidance, especially from recruiters, military nurses, or internationally educated nurses who went through this process.
