Power steering / stabilitrak service
I recently bought a Chevrolet Volt 2018 gen 2. It was driving for the 1st week but then after that it was showing power steering drive with care and stabilitrak service whenever I hit the break. The wheel becomes hard to steer. It was like this for 2 weeks and then after that it disappeared for a couple of days and then this situation came back and stayed there permanently even when I'm not breaking.
I checked the 12V battery and realised it was 8y old so I charged it overnight and plugged it back. The issue was fixed for 2 days and then the issue came back.
So I bought a new age AGM battery from Costco but it didn't fix the issue. But after few driving cycles, the problem went away and the wheel was easy to steer. However the moment I hit the breaks very hard, the issue came back again.
I also realised that sometimes when I hit a pothole on the front right side of the car the problem goes away.
The OBD II scanner gave 2 error codes: U0126-00 and U0131-00.
All of this, hints to me that the steering rack is physically fine but there is some bad grounding issue or bad wire somewhere.
I checked the fuses and they are fine. I checked the G109 and it was fine. I then checked the G110 and G112 which seems to be connected through a green ground belt. I only checked them visually and they seemed to be in bad shape. I believe this to be the issue but since it's hard to access it I thought I would take it to a garage.
When I went to Canadian tire, I just mentioned power steering problem and they said it will probably cost over 2000$. We have to diagnose first. He said it's a common issue with volts.
I have a feeling they are trying to scam me. Can someone with experience tell me what they think? I have attached a couple of pics of the ground belt, one showing the G110 bolt and the other G112.
