Why your air fryer food isn't getting crispy and how to fix it
If your air fryer food keeps coming out soft instead of crispy, the problem usually isn't the air fryer. It's how the food is going in.
The biggest mistake I see is overcrowding the basket. Air needs room to move around the food. If everything is packed together or stacked, you're basically steaming it instead of air frying it.
A few things that made a huge difference for me:
• Don't overcrowd the basket. Cook in batches if you need to.
• Dry your food first. Especially potatoes, chicken, and anything you've rinsed. Excess moisture kills crispiness.
• Use a little oil. You don't need much, but a light coating can help with browning.
• Shake or flip halfway through. This helps expose more surface area to the hot air.
• Don't automatically use the highest temperature. Start with the recommended temperature and increase it near the end if you want extra browning.
• Preheat when appropriate. Starting with a hot basket can help the outside crisp up faster.
Also, don't judge the food the second you pull it out. Some foods get noticeably crispier after sitting for a minute or two.
Once I stopped treating the basket like a mini oven tray and started thinking about airflow, my results got way more consistent.
