I am trying to get out of the news industry. What non-news jobs would be a good transition for someone wanting to get out of the industry?

I have been working at a local news station for the last (almost) two years as the 6:00 p.m. newscast producer. I have a Bachelor’s in print journalism but ultimately went the TV route due to the downhill print journalism scene.

Working in news is not at all what I thought it would be. While I was totally understanding of the challenges going into it, it has become clear to me in the last almost two years that it is not for me and not something I want to pursue long term.

While I have excelled at producing and have met many of the skills/expectations, the news industry is just not what I want to be a part of anymore.

Any advice for fields to look into? PR has been the main one that I’ve been looking at.

AITA: I (23 F) am not comfortable ordering meals that are more expensive than what my boyfriend (25 M) orders. How should I navigate this without coming off as wanting him to spend more?

My boyfriend and I have been together just under a year. In the last almost year, I have always been really careful about what I order when we go out.

I never feel comfortable ordering anything that costs more than whatever he is getting. Sometimes I don’t mind, but other times it forces me to get something I really don’t want/not in the mood for.

For example, we went to a chain steakhouse not too long ago and I really wanted a ribeye, but when he told me what he was ordering, it was a good amount less than the ribeye and I ordered something less expensive than what he wanted.

I can’t really explain why I can’t bring myself to order something even slightly more expensive. I don’t want him to spend a ton of money on me, but at the same time, it would be nice to order something I actually want.
