I'm a 1st year law/comm student at monash and don't intend on practicing law long term.

I want to be an entrepreneur and also want to dabble in content creation and music (considered not going to uni but decided the experience would be worth it). My parents said I can follow any career I want but I should do a law degree because it's a good piece of paper to have and can help me protect myself in the future. Thought since I was planning to do a comm degree anyway (in unimelb though) another 2 years (or 1 if I overload and take winter/summer units) for the LLB at Monash would be fine.

While I've been enjoying the content itself for law, the removal of tutorials and all the disappointments I've been hearing with the faculty are making me question my decision to the point I'm contemplating a transfer to unimelb commerce.

This is taking into account:

  • (possibly) better commerce side of things (heard they have more resources)
  • more friends I know who go there
  • Less commute time (20 mins for unimelb, 1 hr for monash. Only go 2 days/week rn tho)
  • 2 years + fees saved

So is the extra law degree on my name worth those costs if I don't plan on explicitly using it? In what ways would it complement my desired career path or why would transferring to unimelb commerce be a better decision?

Thanks for reading that long post!

TLDR: 1st year law/comm student at Monash, don't want to be a lawyer but enjoy the content. Should I switch to Unimelb comm or continue? Why?
