Pros and cons for Transport and Environmental eng minors for Civil Eng

I'm studying Bachelor of Engineering rn (E3001). And i want to get started on my minor. But I'm divided between the following:

• Environmental engineering
• Renewable energy engineering
• Sustainable engineering
• Transport
• Smart manufacturing

Edit: Or even any other minors

I've spoken to one professor so far and they mentioned that the enviro department of civil is currently lacking and is in need, so job opportunities are looking good. And that transport engineering is always there bc aus is a developing country, so not bad either.

I'd like to hear any thoughts or comments from anyone who's done their minor in these fields already or has good knowledge about this, please. All pros and cons included so that I can make an informed decision.

Edit: I had a look at this website as well but am still a bit lost

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MOVING INTO BLOCK A WATERFRONT

I have currently taken the twin-sharing room in block A, and after seeing the reviews and the comments for block A i am not that confident atp to find it sustainable. Though the majority of the reviews sound to me like overreacting, such as " roaches everywhere "and it being absolutely disgusting.I would like to know realtime reviews not sum bs. Thank you in advanced for helping :)

How to feel less insecure about doing unpaid internships?

As an international student, it sometimes feels like you either play the game or get played. I've done two unpaid internships. I’ve applied for paid positions to no luck. While I'm grateful for the experience (debatable), it also feels like if I don't take these opportunities, someone else gladly will.

At the same time, I can't shake the feeling that my resume is still subpar, and I worry that I'll be stuck accepting "experience" as payment.

How do I stop feeling insecure about this stage of my career? Or better yet how can I put myself in a stronger position to start attracting paid internships or graduate roles?

My industry is business/management/admin roles btw.

I got a problem with Monash...

Recently, I got notification of Academic Integrity Breach from Monash. Apparently, one of my friend had copied my code on GitHub for an assignment and do nothing to not make it look obvious by just changing function name.

Fast forward, we both got a 2/100. Initially, I got 93/100 for that assignment, I DID IT ALL MYSELF WITHOUT WORKING WITH HIM. He copied my CODE without ever asking me behind my back. Now, I'm gonna fail my subject while the guy will pass because he got higher marks for his assignment 1.

When I told him I got 2/100 for the assignment that he copied from, he don't even feel guilty, just said "Me too."

Due to privacy reason, I'm not revealing the person's name, but I feel the decision to call me colluding with him is unfair and giving me same mark as him as the penalty is absurd.

I've contacted MSA and tried to fill in the Integrity Appeal Form, however, the person that handled the decision does not include the reference number for the Notice of Decision, which is needed for the appeal.

This is absolute BS.

Work as a PhD student

I am joining the PhD program at Monash Business School this month. The stipend is decent. But want to build some financial buffer as well. Can students get RA/TA positions at the Faculty?

What are the other options in the jobs market?

Caught cheating on an exam

Hi all, I just wanted to share my situation right now and get some clarity around what the consequences for my actions might be. I recently was caught cheating on an on-campus e-exam. The unit is BTX3699. I cheating by copying exam questions into an AI tool and using those answers in the exam. Monash has evidence of me swiping between different tabs and screenshots of me copying exam material. I have contacted student advocacy and support and they said that they will be able to review my response and get back to me before the due date. In my response I expressed remorse, explained exactly what happened and why, explained how I have re-completed the academic integrity module as well as reading through the Monash AI guidelines and going through Learn HQ. I am a second-year bachelor of commerce student majoring in finance. I have never had any breach of any kind before and I have a decent WAM (83). The only reason I cheated on this exam is poor time-management between work, personal circumstances and other subjects. No excuse, but it's true. I wanted to ask what the consequences could be for this kind of breach in my situation. Can anyone provide me with some clarity?

mth1010 or mth1020

hi everyone!

im currently studying biomed and heading into my second year second sem. ive heard that this sem is very intense so i wanted to take a comparably lighter WAM booster elective.

i got a 39 in methods in VCE and and a 96 in SCI1020 last year.

i was reading the handbook and saw that if you did mth1020 then you are prohibited from mth1010 so im assuming that mth1010 would be the better wam booster. for those that have done either or both of these electives, is this the case?? and also just wanted to ask about what the continuous assessment and exam looks like for mth1010.

for those who hv done either or both of these electives, which one would you recommend in terms of wam boosting potential?

thx in advance!

Multiple mini interviews

Hi guys, I'm in a bind but I have been struggling with understanding how to practice for the MMI I need to take later this month. Is there any resource I can turn to or any advice on how a well structured answer should sound like? What are the interviews looking for in a student and what was it like for those who have already gone through with it. Thanks in advance.

Economics or Econometrics Major?

I’m a commerce/finance double degree student thinking about what commerce major to pick to pair with finance. I think I enjoy economics, particularly macro but the value of econometrics keeps coming up.

If my desired career is in finance, and my interests (while broad) are investing, banking, possibly trading, what would be a better choice.

I’m aware of the maths difficulty involved in econometrics, and it does worry me a bit, because while i’m good numerically and statistically, i have trouble with more complex maths like calculus and probability, although I don’t want to rule it out because i can pass with some effort.

Thanks for any advice

AI used for feedback by UC

Lol, they used AI for feedback. I don't have any personal issues with it, but since we had AI use restrictions on the assignment, it's a bit ironic 🤣.

Edit: it can be a template

Any Free Sewing Machines at Monash?

Just the title. I remember I used to be able to use my high school sewing machines, and I was wondering if Monash has anything similar, or if I need to join a specific society maybe?

I'm trying to make a beanie 😁

Completion Letter

Has anyone here requested a letter of qualification upon completion of their degree? If so, how soon can I expect it after results/what are the processing times? I have to lodge a visa application and it requires the letter.

TIA!
