At my breaking point with our landlord’s kids and need advice.
We live in Ontario in the GTA in a private apartment, and our landlord lives right above us with their family. We’ve been here 2 years, but recently the last six months have been horrible and I’m at my wits end.
Their 4 year old kid runs around and screams and stomps EVERY night between 9pm and as late at 1am. The wife vacuums at 11pm at night. I desperately want to go and tell them to stop again, but my partner has asked me not to because he doesn’t want to deal with the ‘tension’ it will cause with our landlord. Plus we are on a month to month and are afraid of being told we need to leave. We can’t afford to move to another apartment right now because of high rents, even though I’m DESPERATE to move out. (To complicate it, we have 3 cats, and the vast majority of units in our area do not accept any animals.) If we lived in a condo unit I would’ve gone to the property manager many times over. Do we actually have any options here or legal protections, or do we just need to either deal with it or leave?
I don’t know what to do. I suffer from severe migraines, and never being able to sleep is making it so much worse. My job also requires me to start as early as 4:45am some days. I’m afraid for summer when the kids aren’t in school. Any advice would be appreciated (and yes, I do plan on talking to them AGAIN, it just doesn’t do anything, and I don’t want to start a fight with my partner).
