For those who have always been overweight or obese and have had surgery...

I have a family member who does not use reddit and wants me to ask...

If you have always been overweight or obese, were you able to get down into a normal range after surgery?

Family member is 42 F

Started this journey last year because she couldn't lose weight on her own, despite weighing food, counting calories, exercise, etc.

Her gyno checked hormones. They are normal

Her TSH and T4 have been checked, and they are in normal ranges, though sometimes on the very edge of normal.

She has always been overweight since childhood. Obese as a teen/adult, now morbidly obese. She has always struggled with her weight despite despising most junk food and generally eating healthy for much of her adult life. She went through a period where she ate a lot in college, hence how she got to morbidly obese status.

She started trying to lose weight a couple of years ago but didn't lose anything, so she is going the surgical route.

The problem is that her nutritionist would not approve her for surgery initially because she wasn't eating ENOUGH. She has now been strictly following their meal plan and has actually put on a few pounds.

She is worried that surgery will not help her.

Has anyone had similar circumstances and still found success with surgery?

Thanks
