Protein shakes

I can’t stand the protein shakes I got from my doctor. Literally makes me barf just from the smell.
I started drinking Fairlife protein shakes and I can actually stomach those. For anyone who ventured away from the protein shakes they got from your doctor and hated the flavor did y’all leave them behind or do you still try to drink them with a protein you enjoy.

What happens to the scars?

Hi,

I'm almost a year post op, and my scars from the operation are gnarly. Wondering how they healed/how visible they are for folks a few years out, and if anything helped diminish their appearance?

I give up with b4 and current pics almost 4 months post op

I understand that most relationships do not survive gastric bypass surgery. the accusations of cheating, being called a slut and a cunt and whore are fucking charming blet me tell you. I can't fucking afford to leave. We're not married been together 7 years it's his house. All because I have lost weight.

HW 299

Met the surgeon at 260. Surgery at 238 and 187 today I had surgery in March.

I can't enjoy my journey if I buy anything cute I'm a slut.

Afraid of getting Upper Endoscopy

Hello,

This is probably like a stupid question but can I get a endoscopy after a RNY bypass?

I had the surgery in 2023.

I am having a lot of reflux and pain under left side at times after gallbladder removal and stopping mounjaro (to try and stop weight gain).

My gastroenterologist is doing it not my Bariatric surgeon so I'm nervous something can go wrong and it ruptures my stomach or something.

I do apologize. I have a lot of medical anxiety and I'm just worried I may make my conditions worse.

Thank you

Vacation and Holiday experience

Went on a 4 day beach trip with my parents, husband, and kids. It was great, the beach is my favorite place on earth. What made the trip work was the food planning and prep BEFORE going. There was no guessing what meals were going to look like. My husband had sleeve surgery a month before my bypass and my mom was very accommodating in general. So the coolers were packed with high protein snacks, yogurts, and protein shakes. We even took the scale to get portions correct. We usually pick one night to eat out but my husband cooked instead.
Made a creamy chicken dish that the kids and my parents could have pasta added. We both agreed we missed drinking alcohol and snacking on fatty food at the beach with reckless abandon lol. But we know it’s for the best and it was a great trip anyway! We also hosted the fourth at our house and it was another good time! Being so busy hosting and entertaining I had to be reminded by my husband all day to make time to eat and take my vitamins. It was an easy request to ask to have a few pieces of meat to not have sauce added so I can add the sugar free stuff. When it was time to make plates I wasn’t tempted at all which was insane. Turns out I was more thirsty than anything. Woke up very dehydrated with a headache. Have been hydrating all day! Also broke that stall so another reason I’m just high on life lol. Went from 194 to 189 in just a week! Picture of beach included because for the first time since I can remember I have not one single picture of food from this trip! So kind of a NSV?

Upcoming Surgery

I finished all my things and my surgeon first available is Nov 9th. This has kinda thrown me off. I understand the worst part is the first 2 months and I am going to be going through that during holidays.
Has anyone else had surgery during this time? How did you get through it?

Gastric bypass on NHS

Hi! So I’ve just had my first appointment which was a Q&A group session and have also received two appointments within the next 2-4 months. I have a bmi of above 35 around 35.7 and don’t have any weight related conditions other than the usual aching body, struggling to breathe, heavy and irregular periods and being constantly tired. I was wondering whether anyone has a similar background and was approved by MDT for surgery considering I don’t have a weight related condition?

Saw a video of myself today

Hi there.

I‘m nearly six months post op. Op was 22nd of january 2026.
Lost > 50kg all together. HW: 158kg OW: 133kg CW: 101kg

Today i was playing badminton with my husband and son in front of our tesla which was going crazy because of the movement and recorded us.

I saw the videos after and if I would tell you my flabbers were gasted that would be an understatement.

I don‘t see a difference in the mirror AT ALL!
I can tell it‘s different because none of my clothes fit (actually a pain in the ass xD).
I can also tell by the reactions of people etc.

But seeing myself in that video. Actually chasing after the ball and getting it more often than not was amazing.
I still can remember one year ago being out of breath getting up from a chair.

I‘m so thankful for this operation and this new chance at life. I‘m not even 27 years old and I couldn‘t see myself past 30. Now life is just so much more easier from the get go. Not easy peasy lemon squeezy. Still got depressed episodes etc, but just not hurting and hating to get up because it‘s so exhausting is amazing.

Thanks for listening :D

Five month progress pics

Okay, ignore how wrinkled the jeans are.

Lots of people put their stats. I am 6'1" and 47 years old. Highest weight was 160kg (352 lbs) and I am currently 121kg (266 lbs). I don't really have a goal weight.

I have had no pain or complications. Definitely hitting my fibre goals. Hair loss has started big time, but I will survive. I seem to have more flexibility that I was not expecting in my legs and hips and such.

Certainly recommend having the surgery if you are on the fence.

How long

How long did it take from the first PCP appointment till your date of surgery. And how convincing did you have to do with your doctor to get the referral?

Protein shake

Has anyone had this protein shake and is it good? Does it have that disgusting chalky flavor or does it actually taste like chocolate milk ?

Soft food phase

I am just starting the soft food phase, and there is a family BBQ for the 4th of July. Does anybody out there have ideas for something that I could bbq and also something that I can bring for everyone that would also be safe for me to eat?

Update/edit:

I am fully aware of my limits, and of what I should and shouldn't do.

Thank you to those who didn't lecture and didn't give unsolicited advice, and that actually provided a couple ideas.

I'm not looking to gorge myself, or cheat, or eat like an idiot. I am on the soft food phase and just wanted a couple ideas on what some of you may have had during that phase that was tasty and would fit at a bbq.

We all still need sustenance and it doesn't, and shouldn't, always be protein drinks. All that fake sugar is not how I'm going to spend the rest of my life.

Gastric Bypass and Magic Mushrooms - seeking information.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any changes to the experience of taking magic mushrooms after bariatric surgery. I won’t put off a major and important surgery due to any answers however I am concerned. Magic mushrooms gave me some profound experiences which I hope to experience again, I’ve taken them chopped, ground, as tea and in capsule form. I am worried that I either won’t be able to process them the same, or will not be able to draw the psilocybin out in the stomach.

I typically took a 3-6 gram dose depending on mood, the highest dose was 9 grams and a brownie at the same time, I assume I will be able to consume this volume as I know I can have small meal post surgery but I am not sure how the body processes these things.

I don’t need lectures on recreational drugs, I am looking for helpful advice for safety please.

Low heart rate

I plan on contacting my doctors, but I’m curious.

Has anyone else who wears an Apple Watch start getting low heart rate notifications post surgery? I’m just over a month out of bypass and since day 14 I’m getting multiple notifications by the morning saying my heart rate has dropped below 40 for 10 minutes or more in my sleep. But this morning was the first time of being awake and low heart rate.

I don’t have any other symptoms, no dizziness, no fainting, no chest pain or short of breath. I just feel normal. I’m no athlete and currently not working out so it feels like a conundrum.

Has it happened to anyone else?

Need to vent: regrets

Saw a lot of similar experiences from people here about feeling regret having the surgery, so I wanna share mine.

I got the surgery June 16th 2026, and the second I woke from the anesthesia I thought to myself 'what have I done to myself'. The pain was UNBEARABLE, the pain from the gas was something I haven't felt before and I straight up thought I was gonna die. Anyway that passed a couple days and a whole lotta complains later so that was cool.

Then came the issue of eating. When I was in pain it was no problem not to think of food but ultimately the moment was there, I needed sustenance. My mind wanted all of the good foods I had before the surgery but my body said big fat no. That hurts me physically but also mentally.

Physically because I don't yet recognize the new signal my brain receives when I'm full, it's different from before, one bite I'm fine and the next I feel like puking. So that sucks.

Mentally because I want to eat the insanely good food my husband cooks so bad, I wanna stuff my face with whatever. I have this wild craving for chips, candies, all the bad stuff. Headhunger is what my therapist calls it.

And oh my god an ice cold can coca cola I would straight up give up my left arm for that.

Currently feeling regret over all that bc I'm thinking that this will be my life forever, while logically knowing that's not true.

So yeah. Glad I found this subreddit and knowing I'm not alone ❤️
