Low BP, dizzy

I had bypass July 20. My BP was normal at all of my pre-surgery appointments, but my team noticed that it’s been low at all my post-surgery appointments. My grandpa has a fancy machine and I checked it two days ago and it was low there too. I am dizzy often, and I absolutely cannot tolerate being in the sun/heat more than a few minutes without getting very weak and dizzy.

Is this normal? Is it a hydration issue? I’m sipping all day. I’m probably not getting to 64oz but I am sipping with electrolytes all day long.

Caffeine Again

When did you reintroduce caffeine to your diet? I’m only 2.5 weeks post op but I’m looking forward to a coffee with caffeine so much.

Recovery is Hard

I am struggling with this recovery. Physically, a lot of pain. Especially back pain not being able to sleep the way I usually sleep. Randomly my stitches area will hurt like I’m being stabbed again. So weird.

But also I am hungry. I am 4 days out and I want to eat food. 2 weeks of liquid diet before this and now this while my family is eating such delicious food I am mentally dying. I literally just cried in my bedroom, a friend brought over my favorite recipe for my family- so sweet! But I am dying to eat food. Not junk food- just food. Grilled chicken. Veggies. Whatever!
On Monday I get “full liquid” and another week until puree.

This is a very tough journey.

Post Surgery Pain

I’m having trouble getting comfortable at all. My back hurts significantly after surgery. So, sitting in a recliner or laying on my back hurts badly. Lying on my side is also hurting my incisions very badly. Something happened to my IV in my hand and it’s stollen almost to my elbow now and very very painful. I just feel overall miserable. I need some advice and encouragement.

Just had surgery

I had gastric bypass. Surgeon said the walls were thick and he ended up needing to make 8 incisions. More gas was used and I laid on my back on that table longer.

My back pain is unbelievable. Lying on my back makes it worse.
Lying on my side hurts my stomach, even with pillows supporting.
I have been given Tylenol and lyrica and muscle relaxer but I’m not taking narcotics because it can cause puking and/or constipation.
Any advice for me? So much pain!

Nervous!

So, today I officially start my 2 week liquid diet. I am all sorts of anxious and nervous. One thing I’m afraid about is after surgery is done- they said I’ll be sipping water very regularly and walking regularly. They said if I sip too much it will hurt. I’m worried about sipping too much once I get home and hurting myself.
Can anyone tell me if they hurt themselves once they got home by sipping too much too fast?

Liquid Diet Life Savers

I’m going on 2 week preop liquid Monday. Part of my brain says I’ll be totally fine and it’ll go fast- the other part is very anxious.
What was a life saver to get you through those two weeks?

Not Losing (pre op)

My original weigh in weight was 334, but I gained weight while doing all my tests and things up to 341. My surgeon was obviously upset about it, he said I must lose 20 pounds. July 6th is my weigh in. I have been trying to stay right around 1200 calories. I’ve been working out every day. I weighed 339 today! It’s been 13 days since I met with the surgeon!
I did just end my period. I don’t know what is going on. I also have PCOS. But this is so discouraging. I’m supposed to start 2 weeks liquid diet July 6 and have surgery July 20 but I don’t know if he will do it now and I don’t know why I’m not losing. I’ve drastically changed my diet. Mainly Whole Foods and cut sugar almost entirely.

Please someone offer me some help.

Crunch

Sometimes I just want to crunch food, like dry crunch- think chips or gold fish. Trying to stay 1200 or less… what options do I have?

New to This

Hello! I’m on a major health journey, and I’m really toward the start of it here. I have a ton of weight loss ahead of me, my dietitian and doctor have me down to a 1200 calorie diet now.

I’d LOVE for anyone and everyone to give me your best advice for someone who has a lot of weight to lose and is new to this lifestyle. It will be how I eat for the rest of my life.

I’m motivated and excited. I’ve already felt a change, many cravings are gone or mostly gone.

I Hurt my Knee

I went through all the steps needed and I finally meet with the surgeon tomorrow to get a surgery date and… something is wrong with my knee. I’m not asking for medical advice of course, I’m just worried they will see me barely walking in and won’t schedule the surgery. It’s bad pain on the inside of my knee, I think I’ll need an mri.
Will this push me back a lot?

Chewing.. a lot

So I’m about a week away from getting my surgery date. I was told to begin working on chewing each bite around 20-30 times. Do you all do this? Do you always do this? I feel like my jaw is going to hurt so bad. That seems crazy. But I do understand the logic.
I’m looking for some insight behind it and how long it lasts.

Also, no drinking before or after meals for 30 minutes. Is that forever?

Re-Conditioning

Hello! I am asking for any thoughts or tips you guys may have to help me out.
I am obese, working on my weight and diet seriously.
Last year I had a series of horrible illnesses back to back- it caused me to barely move from my bed or chair much at all for months and months.
Ever since then. My legs and lower back are deconditioned, and walking through a store is nearly too painful to handle. I also have a chronic pain condition.
I’m working with doctors and physical therapist, but the main goal is slowly gaining muscle back to support my lower back and regain strength in my legs (while losing body weight).
I’ve been doing that sitting elliptical machine and it will raise my heart rate to about 100, but I feel like I’m ready to start a few machines.

What machines or things should I do to start strengthening my core and legs to take the pressure off my lower back? And how do I begin? Keep in mind my size.

Leak leading to death

A friend of a friend had bariatric surgery and he died of sepsis 3 days later. He had the surgery to live longer for his sons. I’m trying to process that possibly happening to me… did anyone else fear this??

I walked into the gym

I’ve posted here before so some may know I have a severe weight and chronic pain problem. This year I am focusing more than ever on my health and wellness and making major changes.
I’ve gone to the gym in the past but it’s been a VERY long time.
As a big person… it feels like everyone is looking and thinking “yikes. That’s so gross.”
But I went tonight. I did what professionals recommended.
I’m going back tomorrow.

I am already obese- but last year I was sick over and over and over and it had me sitting in a recliner over half the year (covid, pneumonia, flu A, etc.). Since then, walking- even a small amount- hurts my legs tremendously. I sincerely mean the pain is horrible. My shins, my calves, my knees, my hips.
Also, my lower back. So bad.
I refuse to use those carts at stores and things and have kids so I am living my life but just in so much pain. I cannot even stand long enough to do dishes or cook a meal now.

I have increased protein, water, electrolytes, and decreased fast food/processed sugar.

My doctor gave me a muscle relaxer to sleep and put me on a path for weight loss surgery but otherwise… it feels like I’m hopeless.
I know I’m so de conditioned. My pain never goes away. Heating pads help I guess. I’ve tried some physical therapy but it put me in such a bad inflammation pain flair up I was barely able to walk to my car.

Someone help me. Give me some kind of wisdom or plan or help. I take magnesium at night.
