Dying from the 1 HP Dragon. (HP-free Death Mechanic)
A couple years ago, I wrote a blog post about hp-free combat. It's something I've been playing around with on-and-off for the last few years. "How do I turn combat into an OSR-style problem? How do I make that big, bad dragon into an open-ended puzzle without all the stats and whittling down of hit points?"
After a couple years of playtests, I'm ready to share an hp-free death mechanic from those games. The dragon has 1 hit point and a maze of obstacles protecting it—but the players don't.
