Conflicting info on 2008 Kawasaki ER-6n catalytic converter location – Is it in the headers or the muffler box?
Hey everyone, I'm planning about doing some exhaust work on my 2008 Kawasaki ER-6n and I need some definitive answers because I'm finding completely conflicting information online.
My stock exhaust is a 2-piece setup: the header pipes come down from the engine, merge into one, and connect to the big under-engine muffler box via a clamp/band. The O2 sensor is located on the headers right before this clamp joint.
I want to install an aftermarket slip-on, but I want to keep the bike legal and eco-friendly, so I do NOT want to remove the catalytic converter.
Here is my dilemma: Some sources online claim that the cat is located at the very end of the header pipes (right before the clamp). Other sources claim that the cat is permanently welded inside the actual stock muffler box ("the big box"). If I remove the stock muffler box and put a slip-on on the stock headers, am I deleting the catalytic converter or is it staying inside the headers?
Has anyone with a 2006–2008 model cut their stock exhaust open or replaced it and can confirm 100% where the cat actually is? I don't want to accidentally do a cat-delete. Thanks for the help!
