I don’t know these people or what’s actually going on behind the scenes so please take what I say as my own biased observation, but I want to rant about this season as a substance abuse counselor.
This is very upsetting to watch working in the field I do.
First and foremost, I’m not trying to villainize Nia AT ALL. It’s not her fault Danny has an apparent issue from what’s shown, she’s a victim of it as well. Across the board, every addict I’ve worked with had someone who’s enabling them. Whether it’s a family member or a partner or a friend, they usually have someone who just loves them so much that they want to protect them from consequences which is actually doing them a disservice.
People never come to the acceptance stage & decide themselves they want to make a change unless they face the natural consequences of their decisions. I’m not saying Nia needs to just leave Danny for good right now but her shielding him from scrutiny & telling everyone else who notices the behavior to shut up about it is doing this situation no favors.
I hope I’m missing context to this situation and it’s actually a different story outside of this reality show, but this is just my own experiences.
