Help needed with BDEs

Hi seniors! I’m a Year 1 student in SBS doing Biological Sciences, and I had a few questions about BDEs.

The course requirements say we need to complete 27 AUs of BDEs over the four years. Since there are 8 semesters, that averages out to about 3.375 AUs per semester.

So how does this actually work? Do most people take 4 AUs of BDEs every semester, or do you usually take more/less in certain semesters and make up the difference later? How did you guys plan your BDEs across the four years?

I’ve also taken Media Effects as my BDE this semester. For those who have taken it, how is the workload and grading? Is it generally considered an easy module to score well in? I’ve heard there’s no exam, but there’s a quiz and a presentation, so I’d appreciate any insight into how difficult it is to get an A.

Basically, I’d really appreciate any advice from seniors on:

  • How you managed the 27 BDE AUs across the 4 years
  • Whether it’s better to consistently take 4 AUs per semester
  • How important it is to choose “easy-scoring” BDEs
  • Whether Media Effects is worth keeping or if I should consider dropping it

Thanks in advance!

New BIE Y1, need help

Hi, i am a new Bioengineering Y1 and recently just saw my timetable. There was some aspects that I am confused about and need help with.

Firstly, are all of the classes pre-assigned or do i have to choose them myself?

Secondly, currently according to this table my AU is 14, but the minimum according to the planner is 17. So are there some classes that will show up later or do I have to pick them?

Thirdly, are we able to change timings of our lec and classes?

Fourthly, what is the add/drop period and what exactly do i do in it?

Lastly, can I take electives in Y1?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New BIE Y1, please help

Hi, I’m a Bioengineering Y1 and I was wondering about:

I was wondering do Y1 actually choose courses or is everything pre-allocated?

My generated plan is only 14 AU but the normal load is 17 AU, as mentioned in the planning website. Is that normal or am I missing something?

I can’t change any timings, is that because Add/Drop hasn’t started yet and what exactly do we do during Add/Drop (especially for lab booking)?

Can we take electives in Sem 1 or not?

Would really appreciate any help, thanks! 🙏
