How bad is no ac in hall 7

I got allocated to a single in hall 7 with no ac and am wondering how bad it'll be. I'm international and not really used to hot weather, esp while sleeping. I was thinking about switching to a double w ac but I'm not sure cause I've seen that hall 7 is kind of new and I'm hoping its actually not that bad. Has anyone who has lived in hall 7 or tamarind/saraca offer me some insight? Like how hot the rooms get, if a fan is enough?

Grad student at undergrad hall???

Hey, I did not get any graduate halls to stay at and was looking for accommodation outside the campus and then came across an ad that a undergrad student is renting out his room.

As far as I understand it is not legal but I asked around and got to know that many of the masters students are living in that hall and it’s not an issue as long as they are not causing any trouble.

Just wanted to confirm if it would be alright if I stay over there in an undergrad hall as a masters student. And also what would be the repercussions if someone complains or am caught (worst case scenario)

I am an international masters student who’ll be joining NTU MAE school in August this year.

Are most people buying/ renting their convocation gowns?

Only $10 difference between buying and renting, and with transportation cost to go there and return, I think will be around 5$ difference. What are you guys doing?

fridge in hall

hi. I'm an incoming undergraduate who will most probably be staying in a double room in hall. i'm planning to meal prep when i stay in hall. however, from my understanding, there is no communal fridge, and a personal mini fridge requires $80 to declare per semester (unless i hide during room checks). therefore, i have some questions:

  1. from experience, do double rooms have enough space for a small fridge?
  2. where do i buy the fridge from? eg carousell, ikea, department stores, seniors looking to move out of dorm?
  3. what model (s) of fridge are recommended and what will the cost be like? is there a freezer included in these mini fridges?
  4. any problems often encountered when using these fridges in hall eg power trips?

thank you! any response is appreciated :)

Hi seniors, I’m looking to register for the following CS MPEs and would really appreciate any advice on which module is more manageable in terms of workload or generally easier to score well in:

SC3000 Artificial Intelligence

SC4000 Machine Learning

SC4020 Data Analytics and Mining

SC4024 Data Visualisation

Any insights on the content, assessments, workload, or grading would be very helpful. Thank you!

CCK commute advice from current/past students

Hi! I'm an incoming grad student at NTU and was looking for some advice from students who stayed in the Choa Chu Kang area. I was hoping to check and see if the slightly longer commute to and from campus was manageable compared to classmates who stayed in the Jurong area.

Realistically, what’s housing looking like at this point?

As the title suggests, I’m curious to know what housing prospects are looking like at this point.

I’m an incoming coursework graduate for August 2026, and before I commit off campus, I naturally want to know what potential is, especially since it would be of significant financial help if I move on campus.

Having been put on the list till September 2026, I’m curious to know how realistic the chances are of securing housing by the end of this period, or even before for that matter.

Thank you.

What is hall 5 like?

Hi guys, I’m an incoming exchange student so am not entirely sure what NTU hall culture is like.

I’ve been allocated hall 5 for semester 1 and was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience living there, food options and how easy it is to make friends, as well as anything else that might be interesting to know. I will be in a double room too.

Thank you!!

clarification on ntu honours college

I have done some research online about NTU Honours College and there is very limited information on how the entire thing works. Currently considering if I should apply for it (application closes on 3 July, but can choose to apply end of Y1 if keen).

Would really appreciate seniors who are part of the college to help clarify and share your experience on some things!

  1. Does NTU Honours College modules replace the ICC that all students have to take?

  2. Do they have their own electives that we have to choose from or are we able to choose our own electives offered by other schools (as I'm planning to earn a minor cert)

  3. What makes you join NTU Honours College and is it worth it?

Thank you and looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this 🙌

advice on counteroffer for ntu

hii everyone so would like to ask for some feedback about an offer I just received on monday,so i appealed to ntu for my second choice then did their interview ,but no news🥲then a few weeks after, got another interview for my third choice (bioengineering),which i eventually got a counteroffer for,(need to submit decision by 4 july 😭😭)so im again in a dilemma of whether i should swop over from nursing(current matriculated offer) to do bioengineering as I didn’t take o lvl physics( like stopped at sec 2) and no a lvl physics as well, and im worried the engineering math focused areas may put me at a further disadvantage from my classmates who have a physics background alr,so im worried i may not cope with the understanding and content and may struggle

  1. So can anyone who is studying/studied bioengineering now/have friends studying or studied bioeng enlighten me on how tough this course is? (Which from what I know is less physics heavy than mech eng (my original offer)😭

  2. And if anyone knows, how fast they will run through the physics recap,is it just through one module/few lessons to do up the whole syllabus for students with no physics background or they will take slightly longer for students to absorb the knowledge

3)And for bioengineering career path, because ultimately I would like to pivot into biz related roles,an engineering degree can help to easily pivot compared to a nursing degree, but also means I have to come out surviving with a decent/good gpa 🥲
Hence I would like to know on how students without phy background cope with bioengineering course in general(like consistent practice and effort can produce results/consistent effort will still result in falling behind on grades…)

Thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Bringing a brand-new desktop PC to NTU from Vietnam. Customs, GST, issues?

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming international doing undergrad from Vietnam, and I'm planning to bring a brand-new desktop PC with me as carry-on luggage. It'll be built in a small case (likely a Jonsbo C6 or C6 Max), so it should fit within the cabin baggage allowance.

I haven't actually used the PC yet. I plan to build it in Vietnam and bring it straight to Singapore for university.

I was wondering if anyone has done something similar or knows how Singapore Customs handles this.

A few questions:

  • Did you have any issues with airport security in Vietnam when carrying a desktop PC?
  • When arriving in Singapore, did you have to declare it at customs?
  • Were you asked to pay GST or any import fees for a brand-new personal PC?
  • Did Customs inspect the PC or ask for proof of purchase?

I'm bringing only one desktop PC for my own personal use, it's not for resale or commercial purposes.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's had a similar experience. Thanks!
