[PC][Early 2000s] Action game with multiple planets, two factions per world, on-foot but can only kill enemies from vehicles

Platform(s): PC (CD-ROM, standard jewel case)

Genre: Action / Third-person or First-person shooter (not sure which)

Estimated year of release: Early 2000s (possibly late 1990s)

Graphics/art style: 3D graphics, realistic style for the era. Multiple distinct planets/worlds each with a different theme (post-apocalyptic, fantasy, etc.)

Notable characters: No specific character names remembered. Each faction base had a commander/leader NPC who gave you missions via short cutscene when you entered the base.

Notable gameplay mechanics:

  • Each world/planet had TWO opposing factions with separate bases
  • You could CHOOSE which faction to join at the start of each world
  • You played mostly ON FOOT but could NOT kill enemies unless you were inside a vehicle
  • Vehicles were found scattered around the map
  • Allies shown as GREEN triangles on minimap, enemies as RED triangles
  • Entering a faction base triggered a short cutscene with the commander giving missions

Other details:

  • First world had a post-apocalyptic theme
  • Another world had a fantasy theme with a helicopter with a spiral/corkscrew-style rotor
  • CD back cover resembled the back of a shotgun shell
  • Niche/obscure game, not a major title
